School transport guidelines drawn up ahead of September return

The Department for Education (DfE) has produced school transport guidelines as it prepares for a full return of students in September, and Devon County Council has been working with schools, colleges and transport operators to plan for this return. Social distancing guidance, which applies to passengers on public transport, will not apply on dedicated school transport which is not open to the general public. Giant Camera captures large scale images on the Quay

Visitors to Exeter’s Quay will have the opportunity to view a series of ultra large scale photographic prints captured with a giant cameracreated out of one of the rooms at the Custom House.

The images taken by photographer Brendan Barry, along with a camera obscura and a video explaining the processes he used, will be on display at the Custom House as part of Heritage Open Days in September.

The project is being funded by the Exeter Canal and Quay Trust as part of an overall initiative to turn the Custom House into a Literature Hub.

New Race for Life date to help beat cancer

Fundraisers in Devon are set to unite against cancer by taking part in a special Race for Life day this September.

Organisers Cancer Research UK were forced to cancel all 400 mass participation events in 2020 to protect the country’s health during the COVID-19 outbreak. This included Race for Life events in Exeter, Barnstaple and Plymouth.

The charity is expecting a staggering £160 million drop in income in the year ahead and has had to make a £44 million cut to life-saving research funding already in 2020.
