Exeter will be stepping back in time next month when the 80s Day Disco hits Fever on Saturday 16 August 2025.

Running from 3pm to 8pm, the five-hour daytime party promises a soundtrack packed with some of the biggest hits of the decade – from Michael Jackson and Madonna to Queen, Prince, and more.

Driven by her passion to help save young lives, a university student from Exeter will attempt to complete one of the most gruelling feats of human endeavour when she swims the English Channel in aid of the Children’s Air Ambulance (TCAA).

Exeter’s community-owned Real Food Store has announced a partnership with Exeter Foodbank , to support vulnerable and low-income Exeter residents to access high quality, local produce.

The collaboration is part of the Real Food Store’s ‘Round It Up’ scheme, launched at the beginning of February. The scheme gives shoppers the option of rounding up their bill to the nearest pound, with the proceeds being used to provide vouchers to be distributed by Exeter Foodbank. Freezing conditions are continuing to grip Devon and there is further risk of snow showers and icy patches early tomorrow morning.

Devon County Council’s gritters are carrying out multiple treatments on 2,000 miles of the county’s roads.

The University of Exeter has applied for planning permission to put an industrial yard on its Streatham campus which will adjoin the Duryard Valley Nature Reserve, the Exeter Community Garden and the Hoopern Valley part of the Exeter Green Circle.

The NHS in Devon is offering advice to people aged over 70 on how to contact the NHS about getting a coronavirus vaccine.

Yesterday (8 February), the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, encouraged anyone over 70 who has not yet been vaccinated to get in touch with the NHS about booking an appointment.

A largescale analysis led by the University of Exeter and funded by Diabetes UK, has found a disproportionately higher COVID-19 death risk in middle-aged people with type 2 diabetes, raising questions over vaccination strategies across Europe.

The study, accepted for publication in Diabetologia , found that compared to people of a similar age without type 2 diabetes, the additional COVID-19 mortality risk from having type 2 diabetes increases the younger someone is.
