As thousands of runners prepare to take on the Great West Run on May 24th, a local startup is ensuring they don’t spend the next week in pain.

Race Home , a specialist running and recovery brand founded in Exeter, has partnered with the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel to launch a high-tech "Recovery Pod." The pop-up sanctuary will offer "Pulsio Pro" compression technology—usually reserved for elite athletes—to local charity runners and club athletes alike.

A new free-to join tourism network has launched to help businesses share expertise, fight climate change and offer the best product or service to customers.

East Devon District Council awarded the contract for the new East Devon Tourism Network (EDTN) to East Devon Excellence, following a competitive tendering process.

Households reminded of support available as new survey shows rise in food poverty in Devon

Families struggling to afford to eat healthily and keep warm this winter are being reminded that support is available through a number of schemes being delivered by Devon County Council (DCC) and its partners.

The number of Devon households unable to access or afford the food that they need to ensure that they and their families stay healthy has increased by 70 per cent in 18 months according to the latest research.

And more than a third (36 per cent) say that they had planned on switching off their heating altogether this winter to help make ends meet.

Local people are being invited to share their views on 25 acres of land, acquired by East Devon District Council (EDDC), for a new nature-rich, accessible green space.

The new green space is an important milestone in the creation of the Clyst Valley Regional Park. A public consultation begins 6th February at 10am for six weeks until 20th March 2023 at 4pm , on draft proposals for habitat creation, a multi-use trail, network of circular paths and a small car park.

Don’t let ‘toxic mould’ scammers into your home Trading Standards warns

Trading Standards is warning homeowners across Devon, Somerset, Plymouth, and Torbay to be wary of scammers who are trying to take advantage of concerns about ‘toxic mould’.

Heart of the South West Trading Standards says that there have been a number of instances of scammers attempting to dupe householders into handing over money for fake ‘toxic mould’ surveys.

There have also been reports of cold callers targeting residents and offering ‘free surveys’ of homes to check for signs of mould.

Exeter College is celebrating after a full Ofsted Inspection, which has resulted in the College retaining the impressive accolade ofOutstanding.

Rare bird sighting at Colyford Common

Late last year, a very rare bird to the UK turned up at Colyford Common, part of Seaton Wetlands.

For only the second time in recorded history, the isabelline wheatear has been seen in Devon. The first time it was ever seen on mainland Britain was on Lundy Island in October 2019 for a single day.

The isabelline wheatear is a thrush-sized bird, closely related to the northern wheatears which can be seen on Seaton Wetlands every spring and autumn. However, this wheatear should be on mountainous slopes between Turkey and the Gobi Desert, so it was a long way off course....

Marsh Barton station opening delayed

Trains won’t now stop at the forthcoming Marsh Barton station until the spring.

It had been hoped the ‘halt’, located alongside Exeter’s energy from waste plant, would open before the end of 2022, but Devon County Council says the project has faced “challenges” with building supplies and recent weather conditions.

While construction is now “substantially complete” on the £16 million scheme, it adds that standard ‘entry-to-service’ procedures will need to be completed before it can open to passengers. These will begin soon.

According to the latest Office of National Statistics (ONS) crime figures released on Thursday 26 January 2023, Devon and Cornwall remain one of the safest places to live and visit in England and Wales.

The statistics report that overall crime rose by 10.6 per cent in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly during the 12 months to September 2022, which is lower than the national average rise of 12.3 per cent, and 1.3 lower than Wiltshire, which ranks as first place for the lowest total number of crimes in England and Wales.
