Exeter Entrepreneur and Mercure Hotel Launch City’s First Post-Race Recovery Hub

As thousands of runners prepare to take on the Great West Run on May 24th, a local startup is ensuring they don’t spend the next week in pain.

Race Home , a specialist running and recovery brand founded in Exeter, has partnered with the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel to launch a high-tech "Recovery Pod." The pop-up sanctuary will offer "Pulsio Pro" compression technology—usually reserved for elite athletes—to local charity runners and club athletes alike.

A Medical Sciences student whose campaign helped accelerate a number of changes to improve student safety at night has been awarded a prize, at an awards ceremony that marks students’ achievements in academia and beyond.

Buckerell Lodge to be demolished

Dozens of retirement apartments will replace a famous Exeter hotel after plans were narrowly approved.

The now-closed Buckerell Lodge on Topsham Road, which was also a well-known wedding venue, is to be demolished and replaced by 62 apartments and associated facilities.

Plans to build 350 homes in Exeter deferred

Plans to build up to 350 new homes at a long-established Exeter garden centre have been deferred because of concerns about road safety.

Developer Waddeton Park hopes to build the homes at St Bridget Nursery on Old Rydon Lane. The site is now closed to the public but remains in use as the company’s nursery and head office.

Earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria will receive emergency aid of £60,000 from Freemasons

Survivors of the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria will be receiving vital emergency supplies thanks to a £60,000 grant from the Freemasons to the British Red Cross, UK for UNHCR and UNICEF who are leading the relief effort on the ground.

More than 16,000 people are reported to have died in the two quakes which have devastated large areas of south west Turkey and across the border in Syria. The death toll is certain to rise significantly as more bodies are found.

Fin achieves more than he thought possible gaining a degree through an apprenticeship

Fin takes his apprenticeship to the next level by completing a bachelor’s degree with housing association, LiveWest.

Fin Walker, from Exeter, arrived at LiveWest as a 16-year-old eager to pursue a career in the construction industry and train as quantity surveyor.

He enrolled on a two-year course at Exeter College where he studied Construction Contracting Operations to a Level 3. Fin was then promoted from apprentice to Trainee Quantity Surveyor and enrolled on a four-year part-time Degree in Quantity Surveying alongside full-time work which he has now completed.

Local charity, Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI), is seeking a new Treasurer.

The current Treasurer is standing down at the end of March and the charity is looking for a replacement to take up the voluntary role.
