Gandy Street is the place to be on the First Thursdays of the month this summer

First Thursdays is a new event you won’t want to miss.

From June to September, Gandy Street will come alive on the first Thursday of each month, with a festival atmosphere in the early evening.

The first event takes place on Thursday 4 June, 5–8pm. Expect late-night shopping, live music, street entertainment, extended opening hours at cultural venues and a cocktail trail. All your favourite businesses on Gandy Street and in the surrounding area will be open, including:

Devon Air Ambulance’s clinical aircrew are to take part in a 37-mile challenge to help raise awareness of the charity and raise much-needed funds to help keep them responding.

Devon Air Ambulance have two helicopters, and two emergency response Critical Care Cars that may swiftly come to the aid of local people in the event of a medical emergency.

Communities across Devon prepare to celebrate the Coronation

More than 70 communities across Devon will be marking the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen this weekend.

HM Lord-Lieutenant, David Fursdon is encouraging everyone in Devon to celebrate the Coronation, with hundreds of events being planned on Devon’s streets and community spaces, ranging from traditional street parties and lunches to live music events, fun-days, and galas.

Three officers from Devon and Cornwall have been specially chosen to take part in Operation Golden Orb, the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. They will be joining a contingent of officers lining the ceremonial route, representing police forces from around the country.

Big hearted children at an Exeter primary school have raised nearly £2,000 for charity by taking part in a fun run.

Pupils at Wynstream School on Burnthouse Lane chose to support FORCE Cancer Charity, which has its headquarters just a 10-minute walk away.

Nearly every one of their 350 pupils, from reception class to Year 6, got involved.

They walked, jogged and ran laps of the school playing field for up to 40 minutes.

Lympstone Manor is the latest Southwest hospitality venue to benefit from Otter Brewery’s Pints mean Tress initiative, run together with Saving Devon’s Treescapes.

On Friday 7th, April 2023, Michael Caines MBE was joined by Otter Brewery’s Managing Director, Patrick McCaig, Estate Manager Adam Street, and Saving Devon’s Treescapes Lead, Rosie Cotgreave to plant several trees in the grounds of Lympstone Manor. Police in Exeter hail Operation Loki a success and thank the public for their support

Police officers in Exeter have received positive feedback from the public after running Operation Loki in the city.

The operation started in late March and ran for four weeks with high visibility patrols and a range of tactics to tackle issues of local concern such as anti-social behaviour and drug taking.

Local training and consultancy company, SSG, have begun a new initiative to support local community groups with the provision of defibrillation units.

As part of the scheme, £1 from every delegate booked onto a first aid course with SSG will be put towards funding a defibrillation unit for a local community group.

With over 1400 delegates booked to attend first aid courses since the initiative began, SSG’s first defibrillator was donated to Teign Valley ‘Men in Sheds’ project at the start of the year.
