Free NHS flu vaccination clinics available across Devon

It’s not too late to have your free NHS flu vaccination to protect yourself and your loved ones this winter.

Due to the current increase in the rates of flu and other respiratory infections, extra drop-in clinics are running for those eligible to get their free NHS flu vaccine and/or their seasonal COVID-19 booster vaccination.

Citizens Advice Exeter and Citizens Advice Torbay have welcomed Sue Julyan as their new chief executive. The local advice charities are independent but share some management functions under a partnership agreement.

Sue joins after working in education for more than 20 years, most recently as headteacher of Torre C of E Academy in Torquay. She also has experience of the voluntary sector, having been a Scout leader for nearly 10 years and a volunteer for the Purple Angels Memory Café.

'Crucial part' of Exeter's cycle network set to be approved

A new cycle route along one of Exeter’s busiest residential streets is expected to be approved next week.

Devon County Council says the proposed 700-metre stretch along Rifford Road, between the junctions with Ludwell Lane and Honiton Road, is said to form a “crucial part” of the city’s north-to-south E12 route.

Once completed, it will create a continuous route between Polsloe Bridge station and the new railway station at Marsh Barton.

Police appeal after Exeter phone shop burglary

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following reports of a burglary at a store in Exeter City Centre.

Officers were contacted just before 11.15pm on Wednesday 3 May to reports of a break in at a phone store on Exeter High Street.

Investigation officer DI Guy Biggar said: “We are currently investigating a high value burglary which happened in the 3G Ltd store in the City Centre. A medical student at The University of Exeter has been confirmed as a guest speaker on a discussion panel at the launch of the Exeter Respect Festival this evening (Thursday 4th May).

Second year student Naabil Khan will speak alongside Exeter alumni Dr Suaad Genem George at the 26th Respect Festival which brings together communities together to celebrate their differences and commonalities.

Devon Air Ambulance’s clinical aircrew are to take part in a 37-mile challenge to help raise awareness of the charity and raise much-needed funds to help keep them responding.

Devon Air Ambulance have two helicopters, and two emergency response Critical Care Cars that may swiftly come to the aid of local people in the event of a medical emergency.

Three officers from Devon and Cornwall have been specially chosen to take part in Operation Golden Orb, the Coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla. They will be joining a contingent of officers lining the ceremonial route, representing police forces from around the country.

Big hearted children at an Exeter primary school have raised nearly £2,000 for charity by taking part in a fun run.

Pupils at Wynstream School on Burnthouse Lane chose to support FORCE Cancer Charity, which has its headquarters just a 10-minute walk away.

Nearly every one of their 350 pupils, from reception class to Year 6, got involved.
