Devon County Show Confirms 106,000 Visitors in Another Record-Breaking Year

The tickets have now been counted, and Devon County Show has officially confirmed an audited attendance of 106,000 visitors for 2026 — an uplift of 5,000 on last year’s record-breaking figure.

This year’s Show coincided with the late May half‑term break, a rare calendar alignment that contributed to an especially strong family turnout. While children go free on Saturday and therefore cannot be fully audited, the organisers witnessed a noticeably higher number of young visitors enjoying the attractions, activities and livestock displays.

Growing concerns for missing man on crutches

There are growing concerns for Stuart Glanville who has been missing for nearly two weeks.

Stuart, 50, was last seen outside of the Spar shop in Heathfield on Sunday 17 November. When he was last seen Stuart was wearing a backpack, coat and trousers. He also wears a leg brace on his right leg and walks with the aid of two crutches. Stuart is regarded as a vulnerble adult.

If anyone has seen Stuart or has any information regarding his current whereabouts then please contact the police on 101 quoting police reference 523 281113.

Sapphire Living Space welcomed guests to an evening of art and entertainment to kick off the winter celebrations.

Guests enjoyed an evening of Winter Wonderland with drinks and canapes. They were entertained with Christmas food demonstrations by Daniel Dennis, Art by Christine Allison, a range of gifts including interior design ideas by Hugh Dunford Wood.

Second man charged with Exeter Murder

A second man has been charged with the murder of Stephen Crook and has appeared in Exeter Magistate's court this morning.

Steven Webster, 40 from Okehampton and Ryan Singleton, 23 from Coventry will face trial for the murder of Crook, 43 at an address on Alphington Road in Exeter.

Another man aged 39 and a 17 year-old youth remain in custordy in Launceston Police Station in connection to the murder.

Both the 39 year old and the 17 year-old were arrested in Conventry on Tuesday (26 November)

Training school launched for new bikers

Safer motorbike riding in Devon has received a boost with the announcement that Devon Freewheelers is to offer accredited training for new riders – with a special launch price just in time for Christmas.

The emergency biker charity has recently been awarded accreditation by the Driving Standards Agency to run a compulsory basic training (CBT) course and Direct Access training. By law, new riders must possess the CBT certificate before they ride on public roads.

Recognising the importance of attracting investment to Exeter to create much needed employment, the City Council recently commissioned Three S Films to produce a video encouraging businesses to relocate to the city.

Killerton House to hold athletics event

The Killerton House estate, near Exeter, has been named as the new venue for the 2014 England Athletics South West Club and Cross Country Championships.

On Sunday 5 January, over 700 athletes will arrive at Killerton house to compete in the Championship. Runners clubs from 7 counties will take on a challenging course as part of the region’s largest cross country event.

The course is spilt into varying distances to cater for the wide age range of athletes competing.

Update: man arrested on suspicion of rape

Police have arrested a 19-year-old man on suspicion of rape in a Honiton car park last weekend.

He has been bailed until Febuary 2014.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was raped in Silver Street, Honiton at the weekend.

A 25-year-old woman was approached by a man outside the Pitt Club between 3am and 4am on Sunday 24 November 2013. He then followed her to the cattle market car park where he raped her before running off and possibly getting into a car.

Two young scholars at the University of Exeter have been recognised with highly prestigious Philip Leverhulme Prizes.
