Following last week’s steam blowing at the Exeter Energy from Waste plant, which generated significant noise, work is underway to mitigate the sound before the schedule resumes.

Before the plant can go into operation, steam is blown through the pipework to dislodge any grit or dust that could otherwise catch in the turbines. This is a completely safe procedure, and has to happen several times to ensure the pipework is completely clear. It does not form part of normal operating procedures.

People in Topsham are being asked to keep roads clear of parked vehicles when the City Council collects its sandbags on Friday (7 March). The bags were used in Topsham during the recent bad weather, helping to prevent more than 40 properties from flooding.

The local authority will be sending a lorry around to retrieve the bags from outside individual properties.

Residents can keep the bags if they wish but these will need to be taken inside or stored out of sight, otherwise they will be picked up by the Council.

A team of students from the University of Exeter are gearing up to take part in the world’s largest student motorsport competition, to be held in July.

More people are struggling to pay their rents and bills according to the latest figures reported by Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau today. The local charity’s advice trend statistics for January 2014 published today show that they are recording more than 50% more problems with local authority rent arrears than in the previous year. There was an even sharper increase in the numbers of problems with housing association rent arrears which rose by over 65%.
