Gandy Street is the place to be on the First Thursdays of the month this summer

First Thursdays is a new event you won’t want to miss.

From June to September, Gandy Street will come alive on the first Thursday of each month, with a festival atmosphere in the early evening.

The first event takes place on Thursday 4 June, 5–8pm. Expect late-night shopping, live music, street entertainment, extended opening hours at cultural venues and a cocktail trail. All your favourite businesses on Gandy Street and in the surrounding area will be open, including:

Supermarket customers will have the opportunity to have a go at table cricket when disabled people’s charity CEDA launch their new partnership with Sainsbury’s Alphington Road on Thursday 31 July.

South West’s workplaces among safest in the world

The number of people who lose their lives at work has dropped sharply by 85 per cent over the past forty years, from over 650 every year in 1974 to a record low of 133 today, new figures reveal.

Exeter regains its Fairtrade City status

Exeter has successfully renewed its status as a Fairtrade City following an assessment by the Fairtrade Foundation.

The status, which was first awarded to Exeter in 2004, is provided in recognition of the strong support for Fairtrade within the city and the achievement of five qualifying goals.

This includes a wide availability of Fairtrade products in local shops and catering outlets, high levels of support from local people, businesses, voluntary organisations, faith groups and schools, and a committed Fairtrade City Steering Group to co-ordinate the campaign.

The University of Exeter’s Streatham and St Luke’s campuses are among the record-breaking 1,476 parks and green spaces to have received a prestigious Green Flag Award.

The national award, handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.

This is the second year running that the St Luke’s Campus has been awarded the Green Flag status and the fourth consecutive year for the Streatham Campus.

Whipton Children's Centre children celebrated leading charity Action for Children’s 145th birthday with a party for families in the area.

The tots and their families gathered at the charity’s Whipton Children's Centre in Exeter to enjoy party food, balloons, music, games and crafts in honour of 145 years of support for vulnerable children and young people.

Double celebration at Stover Country Park

Stover Country Park and Local Nature Reserve is celebrating a double award.

Kingsbridge murder: second man charged

A second man is due to appear in court this week in connection with the death of 17-year-old Alex Peguero Sosa in Kingsbridge earlier this month.

Henry Felton, 22, of Fore Street, Kingsbridge, has been charged with assisting an offender and perverting the course of justice.

He has been bailed to appear before Torquay Magistrates Court on Wednesday 30 July.
