Public Consultation Opens on Proposed Merger Between Exeter College and Petroc

Exeter College and Petroc have today launched a public consultation on a proposed merger that would see two Devon colleges come together to form a new College Group.

If approved, the new organisation, the Exeter and North Devon Colleges Group (ENDC), would serve more than 16,000 learners across Devon, employ nearly 2,000 staff and have a combined turnover exceeding £100 million.

A series of projects to investigate ways to increase farm productivity while reducing negative environmental impacts (sustainable intensification) will receive £4.5 million from Defra.

Development projects in Exeter and across Devon and Cornwall are being delayed by up to three months as a result of a struggle to source skilled labour, according to leading property consultancy JLL. Exeter School alumnus joins summit challenge

A group of cricketers, including a former Exeter School pupil, set a new record for the highest-ever match with a lung-busting effort at the top of Kilimanjaro on Friday 26 September.

The teams, including English bowling legend Ashley Giles and South African icon Makhaya Ntini, the country’s first black Test player, and Exeter School alumnus Shripal Shah (1985 -1991), trekked to the roof of Africa before dawn and played ten overs each.

British Transport Police (BTP) is appealing for information following an incident which took place at Newton Abbot railway station.

Officers have today released CCTV images of a woman they would like to speak to in connection with the incident which took place at about 1.20pm on Monday, 1 September 2014.

Two charities are coming together to help improve the independence and well being of more people with complex needs.

Community Care Trust, a mental health charity based in Devon, is set to join St Loye’s Foundation within a newly-formed group structure.

Exeter researchers go plastic-free for a month

Researchers from the University of Exeter will attempt to live a life free from plastic during October and are calling for others to follow suit.

Dr Jennifer Sanderson and Miss Lindsay Walker are undertaking the month-long challenge to help raise awareness of our dependency on plastic packaging.

Devon vineyard Pebblebed, has been judged top sparkling wine in the South West winning a prestigious gold medal in the South West Vineyards Wine Awards 2014.

The increasingly popular Pinot Noir, red wine was also recognised with a bronze award.

End of the road for tax discs

On 1 October 2014 a small paper disc which has been a feature on car windscreens in the UK for 93 years will be consigned to history.

From 1 October 2014, the paper tax disc will no longer need to be displayed on a vehicle although vehicle excise duty (VED) must still be paid. If you have a tax disc with any months left to run after this date, it can be removed from the vehicle and destroyed from 1 October onwards. Your vehicle will still be registered as taxed in the database of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
