Five years ago, Dan was homeless, living in supported accommodation, and struggling with addiction and mental health challenges.

Lorry fire causes A30 delays

The Fire Service received several calls reporting a lorry on fire before or just after the Whiddon Down junction on the A30 Westbound.

One fire appliance from Danes Castle Exeter, one fire appliance from Middlemoor Exeter and the water foam carrier from Torquay attended.

Police crackdown on drink and drug driving

Throughout December Devon and Cornwall Police officers will be turning up the heat on drink and drug driving.

Any drivers involved in a collision and any motorists whose driving may lead police to suspect they are under the influence of drink will be breathalysed. If drug driving is suspected they may have to undergo a roadside sobriety test.

Stagecoach confirms Boxing Day buses

Stagecoach South West confirmed today that it will be operating Boxing Day bus services on key routes across Exeter, East Devon and Torbay.

For anyone wishing to travel into and around Exeter the following services will be running:

  • Red Park & Ride will run a Sunday timetable, with the last bus from Honiton Road at 1718 and the last bus from the city centre at 1736. Buses will show ‘M2’ on the destination blind to serve all stops along the Pinhoe Road route

Major flood defence scheme announced

Homes in Exeter, Dawlish Warren and Exmouth will be better protected from floods thanks to an unprecedented six-year £2.3 billion flood defence programme, benefitting Devon and Cornwall to the tune of £86m, which has been announced by the government today. A new flood defence scheme in Perranporth, just one of 163 schemes across the South West getting the green light today, is worth £825,000 and will protect over 200 properties in the area. Rolle Centre development moves forward

Rolle Exmouth Limited (REL) has been awarded a grant of £99,000 by Social Investment Business (SIB) Group from the Community Ownership and Management of Assets Feasibility Fund to develop plans for the future of the Rolle Centre site.

The seven acre site remains the property of Plymouth University, but has been unoccupied since the University relocated its Faculty of Education from Exmouth to its main Plymouth Campus in 2008. Appeal for witnesses to A30 collision

Police are appealing for information following a collision on the A30 near Whiddon Down which happened on Monday (1 December) just after 1pm.

A silver coloured Landrover Discovery, which was travelling towards Exeter near Tedburn St Mary, left the carriageway and rolled over causing substantial damage to the vehicle.

Two women and two one-year-old children were in the vehicle at the time. The occupants were all taken to hospital but escaped with minor injuries.

90,000 kids homeless this Christmas
