Live music fans are set for another celebration of amazing entertainment in the Devon countryside as TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham confirms its return for 2026.

Following its debut outing at the historic country estate this July, which saw headline performances from Duran Duran and Basement Jaxx, Live Nation’s Cuffe and Taylor are now planning for a bigger and better event next summer with plans to unveil the first 2026 headliner in the coming weeks.

Devon County Council is supporting a new scheme aimed at encouraging the growth of dynamic small social enterprises and 3rd sector organisations in Devon.

The project will be run by The School for Social Entrepreneurs, Dartington.

Social entrepreneurs establish and run enterprises with the aim of furthering specific social, cultural, and/or environmental goals, into which profits are reinvested. They tend to operate predominantly within the social economy.

Citizen science helping our cuckoos

Dartmoor Cuckoos have reached the Congo rainforest ahead of schedule this year, at a time when they would normally be taking a break and recovering body condition during their long migration.

It seems the dry weather conditions may have encouraged them to head south weeks earlier than expected. The cuckoos have been fitted with satellite tags as part of a national project to monitor migration routes.

As East Devon’s new town of Cranbrook takes shape and expansion looks set to continue for several years to come, the district council needs to ensure that it has enough staff with the right skills to deal with the many challenges that the blossoming community will pose.

People are being asked what they think about the taxi provision in Exeter.

Exeter City Council is considering some significant changes in the way that the taxi trade is licensed across the city. The number of hackney carriage licences (the cabs which people hail from a rank) could be increased from the current limit of 66. Other measures could include:

  • introducing a distinctive colour scheme for Exeter’s cabs
  • making in-cab CCTV compulsory
  • setting stricter limits on emissions
  • Encouraging the use of electric vehicles

The Green Party in Exeter has written to Council leader, Cllr Pete Edwards, demanding an urgent response to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Appeal after fatal M5 crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a fatal incident which took place on the northbound carriageway of the M5, between Junction 26 (Wellington) and Junction 25 (Taunton) today (Wednesday 5th November).

At approximately 2.30am, a lorry travelling north on the M5, struck the central reservation just after the Taunton Deane Service Station. On leaving his cab, the driver, a male in his late 50’s, was struck by a second lorry travelling in the same direction. An ambulance attended but the male was pronounced dead at the scene.
