Cranbrook to Host First eat:Festival Food and Drink Event

eat:Festivals will be hosting a food and drink festival in Cranbrook on Sunday 13 September 2026.

The festival will be happening in the heart of the town, on and surrounding the Tillhouse Road. eat:Festivals are a small social enterprise who have been delivering one day food and drink festivals in towns across the south-west for over 13 years. Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses following a collision on the M5 northbound near Cullompton in which a woman died.

Police and other emergency services were called to the scene of the fatal collision involving a car and a lorry just after 12.10pm on Tuesday 27 January.

The collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a silver Vauxhall Omega happened about one mile before junction 28, Cullompton.

A leading South West conservation charity has created two new posts as it expands its crucial overseas work. The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust, based at Paignton Zoo, has announced new staff for its projects in Vietnam and Nigeria.

£45m funding unlocked for superfast broadband

Connecting Devon and Somerset has confirmed extra funding has been raised for its superfast broadband programme, bringing the total to around £45 million.

Previously the programme had secured £38 million after local contributions were matched with Government funding.

Murder investigation launched in Dawlish

Police have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a 36-year-old woman’s body in Dawlish this morning (Thursday 29 January).

Police were called at around 6.40pm yesterday (Wednesday 28 January) following reports of a missing person, and an extensive search was undertaken by specialist officers and volunteer search and rescue groups.

A body was later discovered at a property in Iddesleigh Terrace, Dawlish at around 3am today.

Wild beavers to stay in East Devon

England’s only breeding population of wild beavers look to have a brighter future after an announcement made today. Devon Wildlife Trust is hailing the decision by Natural England to grant the charity a five year licence to monitor the beavers as a key moment in the history of modern conservation. The charity is welcoming the positive news after spending months of hard work trying to secure a long term future for the animals. Devon has seen a significant increase in the number of two-year-olds accessing free childcare and early learning thanks to the County Council’s 2gether funding programme.

Since September, over 2,000 children have been offered a funded place at an approved childcare setting, but there are still 600 children who could be eligible for a free place this Spring term who are yet to apply. New snow warning issued for Devon

The Met Office has issued a fresh weather warning as heavy snow is forecast to hit Devon this weekend, with “blizzard conditions” predicted in parts of the region.

The warning is valid for the whole of Sunday and Monday.

Forecasters say further snow showers will affect parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland on Sunday leading to some locally large accumulations and the showers may spread along eastern and western coasts of England and Wales.
