A popular vet practice in Heavitree in Exeter has achieved a coveted wildlife award in its drive to create a friendly space for humans and animals.

Devon Wildlife Trust has recognised Linnaeus-owned City Vets’ wildlife garden due to its welcoming environment for animals.

The garden project was started a year ago by registered veterinary nurse Marianne Segev and veterinary surgeon Fay Dimaline, with donations and support from colleagues.

Devon is braced for a cold snap which will see a sharp fall in temperatures in the coming days.

Although conditions are forecast to be drier and brighter, it’s expected to be much colder from this weekend onwards and Devon Highways is preparing for a prolonged cold spell.

Overnight road surface temperatures are set to fall slightly below zero in some places and will be close to freezing in others, increasing the risk of icy patches by tomorrow morning.

More widespread rainfall today is forecast to be followed by falling temperatures overnight, prompting further warnings of possible travel disruption across the county’s road network.

The Met Office’s latest Yellow Weather Warning for rain started at midday today (Thursday 4 January) and continues until 3am tomorrow morning.

Dartmoor rangers to carry on wearing video cameras

Rangers working on Dartmoor are to carry on using body-worn video cameras in response to anti-social and hostile behaviour by some visitors.

One ranger was able to use footage from a miniature camera to prove that he hadn’t knocked down a member of the public with his Land Rover.

A two-year trial of the cameras which began in February 2022 has been a success, and rangers say they feel safer as a result.
