Independent hearing specialist Broom Reid & Harris - one of Exeter's longest established businesses, is moving on from Guildhall Shopping Centre to new premises at Marsh Barton and open for business on 18 February 2015. The move is as a result of the Guildhall Shopping Centre £12m development, which is looking to attract 13 new restaurants.

Broom Reid & Harris was established in 1841 on Queen Street, Exeter as a Victorian Chemist.

With just one week to go until the Exeter Business Improvement District (BID) ballot closes, voters are urged to use their votes and look to a better future for Exeter.

Exeter resident Thomas James is hoping to raise £1,750 for mental health charity Mind by taking part in this years iconic London Marathon.

Thomas said: "In January of last year I was struggling with my own mental health. Like most people I never thought that type of thing would happen to me. I was finally diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress. I learnt this was due to unresolved abuse I had suffered thought my childhood and early adulthood.

£500 scholarship for Exeter student

Future Finance Loan Corporation has awarded a scholarship to a University of Exeter psychology student, Luke Nightingale, the third winner in a series of recipients set to receive funding as part of a wider campaign to help fund students in higher education.

Organisers of a new exhibition held at award-winning venue Sandy Park last week have spoken of the success of their inaugural event.

Some 200 delegates travelled from across the South of England and Wales – and even further afield – to Exeter for VetsSouth, which is now set to become an annual event in the veterinary calendar.

Exeter CAB reports increase in average client debt

Local charity Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau today publishes its latest advice trend statistics which show that so far this financial year it has helped 4,976 people directly with advice and information.

On average, clients with debt problems had debts totaling £15,685.79, up by £2,488.38 on the same period the previous year.

The amount of advice that the charity has been able to provide has increased in the following areas compared to the same period last year:

Help for Devon vulnerable to continue

More than 10,000 vulnerable people in Devon have been helped by a crisis intervention scheme over the past two years.

The scheme’s been operated by Devon County Council working with the eight district councils and funded by a Government grant.

But the scheme was in danger after the Government withdrew the grant.

However, after extensive lobbying by local councils, the Government agreed extra funding to allow it to continue.

Now Devon County Council has agreed to top up the grant to a total of £1 million to allow more people to be helped.

School children to welcome teams to RWC2015

With excitement building ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015, schools are being offered the opportunity to be part of the ceremonies which will welcome the 20 participating teams to the Tournament in England and Wales.

Each of the 20 teams will be officially welcomed to the Tournament and their respective Team Base regions by local schools in September 2015.

Raising funds for vital support services

The Family Law Company’s Domestic Violence and Private Law Children Team held a coffee and cake afternoon to raise funds for two local organisations: SAFE (Stop Abuse for Everyone) and Splitz Support Service.

Staff from the law firm baked cakes, and the catering equipment was donated by South West Events Hire. The event was well attended by members of the judiciary and Court Service, counsellors, financial advisers and local barristers and solicitors.
