Curry chefs from East Devon, Exeter and Teignbridge were on sizzling form when they participated in the Curry Chef of the Year 2015 competition, which took place on Tuesday 17 February at the @34 Restaurant at Exeter College.

Policeman dismissed for sex in public

On Tuesday 17 February 2015 an internal misconduct hearing was held in respect of a serving police sergeant.

A member of the public had made a complaint that the sergeant had been seen engaging in sexual activity with another, in a public place whilst on duty.

The sergeant admitted the allegation and that his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct.

The sergeant was dismissed from the police service without notice.

Devon bids for highways fund

Devon County Council has submitted a £44 million bid to the Government for additional funding for major resurfacing, drainage and streetlight improvements on some of Devon’s most critical road infrastructure.

Devon is attempting to secure a share of the £575 million Local Highways Maintenance Challenge Fund. In a joint collaboration with Torbay Council, it’s looking to secure £34.29 million to fund improvements to the A39 and A361 North Devon Link Road and the A380, all of which serve future growth developments which are currently in the pipeline.

Exeter Phoenix wins Arts Council funding

Exeter Phoenix is to receive £320,745 from the Arts Council’s Capital funding programme to revamp the building’s facilities and develop their digital resources to enhance audience experiences.

They are one of five organisations in the south west that have been awarded a total of £1.25 million towards developing the sustainability and resilience of their buildings in the third round of Arts Council England’s small scale Capital funding scheme.

Police are appealing for the public’s help following two separate bike thefts which have taken place in Exeter this month.

Bicycle theft from Stuart Road in Exeter

Three bikes have been stolen following a break-in on Stuart Road, Exeter including a Trek Madone US Postal Services bike worth £2,000 (pictured).

This bike particularly identifiable as the pedals were originally black but have been filed back to look silver/chrome, and has a silver and blue coloured frame. A white ladies bike and a grey/silver Trek bike was also taken at the same time.

Appeal for witnesses to fatal A377 crash

Police would like to speak to the driver of a white van who may have witnessed a fatal collision near Lapford on Tuesday 17 February.

The collision involved a Subaru Legacy which was travelling on the A377 from the Eggesford direction towards Lapford, when it left the road Nymet Cross, hitting a culvert wall and telegraph pole before hitting a tree.

The two male occupants of the Subaru were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

At this time no formal identification has been made on the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision.
