THE Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust has been shortlisted for a national award for its commitment to delivering excellent patient experience.

The Trust has been named as a finalist in the Patient Experience Network National Awards (PENNA) for its work to resolve complaints at the earliest possible stage.

Man sentenced for tobacco trading

An Exeter man has been sentenced for supplying illicit tobacco and DVDs following an investigation by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards service.

Philip Martin, 62, of Masefield Road, Exeter was charged with selling, and having available to supply, tobacco which did not have the legally required health warnings or the appropriate duty paid markings; and possessing a number of counterfeit DVDs with the intention to sell them.

The court also heard that the tobacco sold by Mr Martin was counterfeit.

Exeter Junior School welcomed back 1987 leaver Charlie Alder for World Book Day.

Author and illustrator Charlie, who studied A Level Drama at Exeter School, spent the morning of Thursday 5 March with Year 3 pupils and Junior School librarians sharing her first author illustrated picture book, Daredevil Duck.

During her workshop Charlie showed the children the journey from a doodle to an actual published book. The children were able to look at examples of Charlie’s work at every stage of this journey.

Two brave teams from the Santander Exeter branch and Bodial Nutrition will push themselves to the limit at the Exeter Rock Solid Race to raise money for St Loye’s Foundation.

From shimmying under barbed wire in pools of mud to crawling through pitch black wet tunnels, Exeter Rock Solid Race, at Escot Park, is a challenge of courage and endurance. The teams are set to battle through obstacles at the race on March 21 and 22.

Stagecoach South West has unveiled the final phase of its modernisation of Paignton Bus Station: a nine metre long mural featuring many of the Bay’s popular visitor attractions.

New bridge opens at Bradninch

A Mid Devon bridge which was destroyed in floods in late 2012 has been reinstated.

The original Waterstave Bridge, near Bradninch, which was built in the nineteenth century, was partially swept away following heavy rainfall and flooding on 21 November 2012. The extent of the damage meant that the remainder of the Grade Two Listed bridge was irreparable and unsafe, and was subsequently de-listed and demolished.
