Devon charities announced as partners for huge weekend of live music

Four Devon-based charities have been selected to be official partners for the county’s biggest music event this summer.

TK Maxx presents Live At Powderham runs for four nights from Thursday June 25 to Sunday June 28, featuring headline shows from vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims, seven-time GRAMMY winner Alanis Morissette and global superstar Lewis Capaldi.

Each night will see a local charity given the opportunity to have a team of fundraisers on site and for 2026 Live At Powderham will support Devon-based charities who make a big impact in the communities they serve....

The Green Party in Exeter has welcomed the announcement by Stagecoach South West that it is to freeze many fares on city services, introduce simpler ticketing and extend some low cost fares. Green Party members have had several meetings with Stagecoach bosses in recent months, including one involving Green Party leader Natalie Bennett. A group campaigning for better travel solutions in the south west areas of Exeter has asked all prospective councillors for Cowick, Alphington and St Thomas for their views on key issues such as whether or not they support a review of proposed measures, including a park and ride on the site of Oaklands Riding School. UKIP Parliamentary Candidate Derek Sargent and ‘flying column’ supporters hit the streets of Bideford on Saturday morning. Almost everyone spoken to in and around the town’s High Street and Pannier market areas, pledged their support for Derek in the upcoming May 7th election and some said they’d already voted by post.

The days activities began with the discovery of more signage vandalism on Churchill Way, Northam, quite an ironic choice, where a large banner had almost been ripped off a fence but, being a UKIP sign, it tenaciously clung on despite the attack.

Three leading organisations in a North Devon village, who come together to improve the lives of local residents and visitors, have won this year’s Prince of Wales Award, which will be presented at the Devon County Show, May 21-23.

Swimbridge Jubilee Hall Committee, Parish Council and Parochial Church Council will jointly receive the accolade awarded by HRH The Prince of Wales, administered by Devon County Agricultural Association (DCAA), to recognise community sustainability initiatives in rural Devon.

Cyclist dies after collision in Devon

A woman has died following a collision in Cullompton on Friday.

The woman was cycling along Old Hill, Cullompton around 5.30pm on 24th April when she collided with a road sign.

Paramedics and police attended the scene and the woman was taken to the RD& E via land ambulance where sadly she died.

She is thought to be a Romanian national in her 40s. Her next of kin are being traced.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision.

The road was closed until 11pm while investigations at the scene took place.

Over 200 guests of Hospiscare enjoyed hearing from the renowned business guru Lord Digby Jones at a dinner held at the University of Exeter on Wednesday (22nd April) evening.

Lord Jones spoke to the local business community on diverse subjects such as his running of the London Marathon, being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman and the British success in Formula One.

Pupils play for water in fundraising concert

For the 14th year running, the talented young musicians and singers from Exeter School will perform a special charity concert to raise funds for international charity WaterAid.

All proceeds from this concert, which takes place on at 7.30pm on Wednesday 29 April at St David's Church in Exeter, will go directly to WaterAid projects in Zambia, helping some of the country's poorest communities gain access to clean water and safe sanitation.

Currently in Zambia, 5.2 million people have no access to a safe water source and 8 million people have nowhere safe to go to the toilet...

Help clean up Exe Estuary

People are asked to meet at the Imperial Recreation Ground slipway in Exmouth at 2.30pm on Saturday 9 May, to spend a couple of hours cleaning up the estuary.

In return for their time, volunteers will be welcomed aboard Stuart Line Cruises for a free cruise of the estuary, including a free buffet and live music from Ace Music jazz band, at 5.30pm.
