Exeter ranked move-friendly city

Exeter has been named one of the UK’s least stressful cities to move to, thanks to strong infrastructure, good housing availability, and ease of access to short-term services.

In a new national study released by Pay Less for Storage, Exeter scored 74 out of 100 in the “move-friendliness” index, ranking joint 10th alongside Inverness, Lancaster and Ripon. The research measured practical relocation challenges like van hire access, local self-storage options, chain-free housing stock, and the availability of short-term rentals.

Valor Hospitality to manage net zero carbon hotel 

Valor Hospitality has been appointed to manage voco Zeal Exeter Science Park, InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG Hotels & Resorts) first lifecycle net zero carbon hotel in Exeter.

Set to open late 2024, the hotel is the latest to be added to Valor’s strong portfolio of almost 40 properties. It supports the company’s sustainability ambitions, aligning with the UK Green Building Council’s framework definition of net zero carbon buildings.

Open garden day unites community in memory of beloved friend

A formidable group of friends has raised more than £60,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support by bringing the Clyst St Mary community together in memory of a beloved friend.

Al’s Pals Open Garden party has been running for the past few years thanks to a dedicated team hoping to honour the memory of their dear friend Alison Robinson , who died from cancer in 2019.

This year’s event raised £4,567.29, bringing the total collected by these fantastic fundraisers to £60,000 to enable Macmillan Cancer Support to fund services for people living with cancer.

Crowdfunder launched for Salmon Run 2023

Community interest company Tidelines has launched a Crowdfunder appeal to cover the costs of holding the second annual Salmon Run , on 24 September 2023. And the Aviva Community Fund has agreed to match all donations by 2:1.

The event, first run in September 2022, includes a 50-mile ultra run, a 50-mile relay and a 5k fun run – to celebrate this remarkable but endangered fish and raise awareness of its ecological and cultural significance. A new eatery is coming to Exeter’s Heritage Harbour in September.

The coastal Thames barge Snark will be arriving in Exeter on 23rd and will be berthed in the Canal Basin for six months providing a unique and very special winter dining room.

Tesco is making it easier than ever for shoppers to give a helping hand to food banks and charities providing aid to people in Devon this summer.
