One Devon launches county-wide conversation on neighbourhood health

People across Devon are invited to find out more and help shape the delivery of neighbourhood health across the county.

The national vision for neighbourhood health, set out in the 10 Year Health Plan for England and national Neighbourhood health framework , is to bring together GPs, community services, mental health, social care, voluntary organisations and local partners to provide more joined-up support in local communities. Book reveals turbulent early years of The Salvation Army in Exeter

Bloodshed, beatings and broken limbs, fireworks, gunshots and riots, are not things people associate with today’s well-respected Salvation Army.

But a new book, published by The Salvation Army in its 150th anniversary year, called Blood on the Flag, highlights that in its early years these were everyday occurrences faced by members of the Church and charity.

Large proportion of those in the South West fail to be ‘on the money’ when it comes to who’s who on bank notes They are some of the most important and “noteworthy” figures in British history. But according to a new survey, over three in five people living in the South West (62%) admit they struggle identify the famous faces who appear on our banknotes. Researchers presented 2,000 British adults with images of the £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes. Rogue traders preyed on Devon's elderly

Rogue traders, Thomas Johnson, 57, and Tommy Johnson, 29, of Birtley Road, Guildford in Surrey, have been sentenced at Exeter Crown Court.

Thomas Johnson senior was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment, suspended for 2 years, with 150 hours community service and a curfew order. Thomas Johnson junior received 18 months imprisonment, suspended for 2 years, and 150 hours community service.

The defendants were ordered to pay £1,000 each in contribution to costs, and a Proceeds of Crime Act investigation was ordered into Thomas Johnson senior.

RISE Recovery celebrate first peer supporter graduation

The inspirational achievements of nine peer supporters at RISE Recovery Integrated Services were recognised at the first ever RISE Peer Supporter graduation on Tuesday 22nd September.

The graduation ceremony was held at RISE Exeter with peer supporters coming from RISE services across the county including Newton Abbot, Barnstaple, Tiverton and Exeter.

Join Exeter Hospiscare's Bring a £1 Day

Join more than 60 Exeter businesses, schools and organisations who are taking part in Hospiscare’s big fundraising event, Bring a £1 Day, on Friday October 9.

They are all keen to support the local charity which last year cared for 632 terminally ill Exeter patients and their families, with 473 people being visited in their own homes by Hospiscare nurses and 164 local people were admitted to the hospice.

Hospiscare is calling on local people to collect their £1 coins and bring them to Princesshay to put them in a giant pink collection hat.

Police warning after increase in dog attacks

Police in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset have been contacting local schools at the start of the new term, highlighting the need for dog safety.

Forcewide the number of people injured by dogs has risen sharply. In August 2014 there were 6 cases of a person being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury. In July 2015 that figure had risen to 63.

As a result of this police, in partnership withthe RSPCA and the Dogs Trust, are contacting primary schools and offering safety advice.
