Loganair’s new Exeter–Manchester route takes flight

Loganair, the UK’s leading regional airline, is celebrating the launch of its new Exeter–Manchester route, strengthening regional connectivity and offering customers seamless access to international travel via Manchester Airport.

The new service, which began yesterday [26 October], will operate frequently before transitioning to a daily schedule in March 2026.

Heavy rain warning issued for Devon

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning as heavy rain is set to return at the end of the week.

Forecasters say a developing area of rain is expected to reach the South West early on Thursday morning, which will continue into Friday.

The rainfall is likely to be heavy and thundery at times, with the potential for torrential downpours in places.

The public should be aware of a significant risk of very localised disruption to travel due to surface water flooding.

Law firm renews Exeter theatre sponsorship

Exeter Northcott Theatre is delighted to announce that law firm Browne Jacobson has renewed its sponsorship with the theatre for a second year.

The year-long sponsorship agreement with the national firm which has an office in Exeter will make a valuable contribution to the theatre.

Police appeal to find missing Devon woman

Police are concerned for the welfare of 48-year-old Jane Brocklehurst from Budleigh Salterton.

Jane was last seen on Saturday evening at her family’s flat in West Hill on 8 August.

Jane is described as being a medium build and has mousey brown shoulder length hair.

She is believed to be wearing brown cropped trousers, dark red or brown patterned top with scooped neck and green/grey pumps, she may also be wearing a grey coloured three-quarter length mac.

Jane may be travelling on foot, and could be between Budleigh Salterton and the Littleham area.

Child sex abuse on the rise in Devon

Victims of child sex abuse in Devon will be given personal support and trauma counselling to help them rebuild their lives – as figures show reports of abuse are on the increase.

The service, which will draw from Cognitive Behavioural and Family Therapies, will provide one-on-one help and advice and counselling and will be delivered by The Children’s Society’s Checkpoint project in Devon, thanks to a £300,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Record crowds attend Dartmoor Folk Festival

A resurgence in the popularity of folk music, song, dance and crafts resulted in record crowds attending the 38th Dartmoor Folk Festival at the weekend.

Local and national artists entertained audiences at the event held at South Zeal, near Okehampton.

The festival included concerts, dances, a Dartmoor Fayre, a ceilidh, folk service, craft displays, music hall, pub sessions, a ramble on Dartmoor and music, song and dance workshops.

Four arrested after Cowick Street assault

Detectives investigating a serious assault in Exeter at the weekend are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A 21-year-old local man was found unconscious in the road in Cowick Street, St Thomas, shortly before 4.20am on Saturday 8 August. He had suffered serious head and neck injuries.

Officers believe he had been the victim of an assault at the junction of Cowick Street and Old Vicarage Road before being struck by a car, driven by a 37-year-old man from the Exeter area. The collision is believed to be unrelated to the assault.

Haldon ladies Tug of War team are celebrating after coming third at the National Federation of Young Farmers Club finals, when they represented Devon at Tenbury Show in Worcestershire.

The team is made up of members from Bow, Newton St Cyres and Chagford including Emma Davie, Georgia Woodman, Alice Palfrey, Georgina Davie, Sophie Down, Lucy Thomas, Jess Palfrey and Alice Giles pulled against 8 other teams in the first heat, winning 4 outright, three draws and losing just one.
