In July EX2 Group was proud to support Building Greater Exeter’s Work Experience Week, an inspiring initiative aimed at introducing Year 10 students to careers in the built environment.

EX2 group team member James Rayner TMIET, led an engaging hands-on solar masterclass for Year 10 students from the Ted Wragg Trust.

Devon dealership a hit with apprentices

Lord Sugar may be king of The Apprentice, but a Devon dealership has been doing its bit over the past three decades to help local people into work.

JFE Exeter Nissan, part of the Wellington Motor Group, currently has seven team members who started out as apprentices – and are still working at the Marsh Barton Trading Estate.

EV Technician Steve Horwell is the longest-serving, having been employed at the dealership for 28 years. He helped train Service Manager Pete Lascelles, who joined shortly after him.

Motorcyclist dies following A38 crash

A motorcyclist has died following a collision on the A38 at Tiverton this morning (Monday 27 July).

Emergency services were called at 8.30am following the collision between the Honda CBR 125 motorcycle and a fuel tanker near Burlescombe. A third vehicle, a white Citroen C2, was also involved in the collision.

The motorcyclist, a man 23 year old man from the Tiverton area, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin have been informed.

Exeter council invests in a brighter future

Fourteen families have moved into new ecologically friendly, high tech homes built by Exeter City Council as part of a project to make the most of underused spaces in the city and create affordable housing for local people.

Silverberry Close and Barberry Close provide a total of 14 new three-bedroom properties, including two fully wheelchair accessible homes.

These rented houses are now providing comfortable living space for families who were waiting for a suitable place to live on Exeter’s Housing Register.

Man who died in Exeter lorry crash named

Police have released the name of the pedestrian who died following a collision with a lorry in Exeter on Saturday.

The man has been identified as 77-year old Eric Carnell of Bartholomew Street West in Exeter.

Police, fire and ambulance were called just prior to 1pm on Saturday 25 July to attend Fore Street, Exeter after reports of a collision between a lorry and a pedestrian.

Mr Carnell was pronounced deceased at the hospital shortly after.

Fore Street was closed for around six hours as specialist forensic investigation of the scene took place.

Second man arrested after A380 hit and run

A second man has been arrested by police in connection with the hit and run death of a pedestrian on the A380 on Sunday.

Police have arrested a 58-year-old from Newton Abbot, on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and he awaits questioning at Torquay custody centre.

A 51-year old man has already been bailed pending further enquiries until the 2nd November following the death of a pedestrian on the A380 on Sunday 26 July.

Man rescued from smoke filled flat

A man was rescued from a smoke-filled flat in the St Thomas area of the city this afternoon (Monday 27 July).

Two fire engines from Exeter were sent to a report of smoke coming from a first floor flat window in Haven Road shortly before 2.30pm.

An ambulance was also requested to attend as it was unsure if anyone was still inside the property.

The fire service confirmed that a man was rescued from the flat, which was heavily smoke-logged, by two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hose reel jet as a precaution.

Ottery play area takes a step closer to completion

Improvements at the Land of Canaan play area in Ottery St Mary have taken a step closer to completion as local children have chosen their favourite design.

Although the winning design has not yet been approved by Ottery St Mary Town Council and is still to be deliberated by East Devon District Council, who release the funding, local children have had their say about what they want.

Two men have today been sentenced to four years each in jail after being caught attempting to sell heroin on the streets of Exeter.

Mohamed Adalla (left), aged 19 and Abdu Aziz Mohammed (right), aged 26 were sentenced to 4 years each at Exeter Crown Court today (27th July) after pleading guilty to possession of heroin with intent to supply.

Adalla and Mohammed, both from London, were caught by plain clothes officers in possession of over 45 grams of heroin with a street value of £6,880 near Exe Street on Thursday 4th June.

A survey into a new benefit due to be introduced in Exeter has produced some alarming results.

Universal Credit, which will replace many existing benefits, is being gradually rolled out across the country and will begin to be implemented in Exeter in November.
