In July EX2 Group was proud to support Building Greater Exeter’s Work Experience Week, an inspiring initiative aimed at introducing Year 10 students to careers in the built environment.

Four arrested after Cowick Street assault

Detectives investigating a serious assault in Exeter at the weekend are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A 21-year-old local man was found unconscious in the road in Cowick Street, St Thomas, shortly before 4.20am on Saturday 8 August. He had suffered serious head and neck injuries.

Officers believe he had been the victim of an assault at the junction of Cowick Street and Old Vicarage Road before being struck by a car, driven by a 37-year-old man from the Exeter area. The collision is believed to be unrelated to the assault.

Ladies' national Tug of War success

Haldon ladies Tug of War team are celebrating after coming third at the National Federation of Young Farmers Club finals, when they represented Devon at Tenbury Show in Worcestershire.

The team is made up of members from Bow, Newton St Cyres and Chagford including Emma Davie, Georgia Woodman, Alice Palfrey, Georgina Davie, Sophie Down, Lucy Thomas, Jess Palfrey and Alice Giles pulled against 8 other teams in the first heat, winning 4 outright, three draws and losing just one. The local branch of Samaritans is aiming to increase the information it provides and the audience it reaches by taking the unusual step of setting up a Twitter account.

The Exeter Mid and East Devon branch - which uses the name @ExeSamaritans - is one of the first Samaritans branches in the country to open an account on Twitter, and will create tweets that will be sent to followers several times each week.

Event marks completion of Dawlish rail line repairs

Residents are invited to an event to celebrate the completion of Network Rail’s work in Dawlish to repair the damage caused by last year’s storms and make the area more resilient for the future.

Over the last few weeks the ‘orange army’ completed the final milestone in their 18-month project to repair Dawlish’s railway line; rebuild and strengthen the sea wall; and carry out cliff stabilisation work at Teignmouth, to prevent any future extreme weather causing the level of damage that occurred last year.

Crediton residents asked to pool flood info

Crediton residents have so far provided a wealth of information about flooding vulnerabilities around the town as part of a community project being led by the University of Exeter, and now researchers are calling for more people to get involved.

Cardiac arrest survival rates high at RD&E

Well over a third of patients who suffered cardiac arrest at the RD&E Hospital in Exeter last year survived and were later discharged from hospital compared to 18% nationally, a clinical study has found. The latest National Cardiac Arrest Audit Report compared hospital cardiac arrest survival data for the period April-December 2014. Some 37.5% of patients at the RD&E survived and were later discharged compared to a national average of 18.4% at hospitals across England. The gorilla with wanderlust is back on home soil - for a time. PEG - Polar Explorer Gorilla - left Living Coasts in Torquay with HMS PROTECTOR, the Royal Navy's Ice Patrol Vessel, for her last deployment in October 2013.
