Westbank celebrates 20 years of Kidzone with current and former attendees

Westbank Community Health and Care has celebrated the 20th anniversary of its dedicated childcare facility, Kidzone, with former and current attendees. The Ofsted-registered facility at Exminster cares for more than 140 children in total, offering nursery, pre-school, holiday clubs and wrap-around school care for children up to 11 years old. From early summer this year, Kidzone has accepted babies aged from 5 months, and this age group is slowly building.

Exeter housebuilder invests £5.4 million into local community

A South West housebuilder is injecting more than £5.4 million into the Exeter community.

As part of its St Michaels’s Meadow development, on Chudleigh Road, which will provide 206 three and four-bedroom homes, Redrow South West has confirmed it is investing over £5.4 million into the area.

As part of the housebuilder's commitment to creating thriving communities, Redrow is contributing over £1.1 million to education services. This will include over £384,000 to support local secondary schools and a further £384,000 will be invested into primary schools.

Barny Butterfield, chief cider maker at Sandford Orchards, and in-house cider maker at the Darts Farm small batch cidery, will be at Darts Farm on Sunday 22nd October pressing apples from gardens around the area to create the Darts Farm x Sandford Orchards’ Community Blend Cider 2023.

Locals are encouraged to drop their homegrown apples between 11am and 4pm from Saturday 14th until Sunday 22nd October, when they can watch Barny press them using Darts Farm’s 140 year-old stow cloth press. South West communities receive funding boost to improve mobile connectivity

The Connecting Devon & Somerset Mobile Boost scheme has secured over £430,000 from the Heart of the South West LEP, to provide vital mobile connectivity to rural communities.

The Mobile Boost scheme ran from February 2021 to March 2023, and funded over 1,700 installations across the region, helping small businesses and homeworkers with poor indoor mobile coverage.

Data from Ofcom states that 23,000 premises across the Devon and Somerset area are 4G ‘not-spots’, meaning they lack adequate coverage.

People can celebrate the Hindu Festival of Navratri at the University of Exeter with spectacular dancing and food.

Navratri honours the divine feminine energy. Students from the university’s Hindu Society hope others can join them as they mark the important nine-day festival.

There will be Garba, a form of traditional Gujarati dance. Traditionally, the dance is performed by women in a circle around a clay lantern with a light inside to represent the womb. The word "garba" comes from the Sanskrit word garbha, which means womb.

President of the Lib Dems, Mark Pack, visited Exeter last Friday 13th October to a warm welcome from a packed room of local members.

Particularly touching was when Mark described the difference one Lib Dem MP can make. This is exhibited every Saturday with marriages happening all over the country since a Liberal Democrat MP, Lynne Featherstone, put gay marriage on the agenda one decade ago.
