Exeter-based law firm achieves record breaking results

Porter Dodson, the South West-based UK Top 200 law firm, has announced a record-breaking year of growth and achievement, increasing revenue to £20.2m, while retaining the highly prestigious Gold Investors In People accreditation for the third successive time.

Across its Exeter, Sherborne, Poundbury, Bridport, Wellington, Taunton, and Yeovil offices, the firm has seen year-on-year growth of 15.5%, leading to a 25.4% leap in net profit.

One Million Lives Saved from Cancer since the 1980s

Around 1.2 million deaths have been avoided in the UK since the mid-1980s due to advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment, according to new data from Cancer Research UK.

Over the last four decades, UK cancer mortality rates have fallen by around a quarter after peaking in 1985 for men and 1989 for women.

Had rates stayed the same, it is estimated that around 111,000 more lives would have been lost in the South West.

The figures have been released to coincide with the launch of the charity’s new campaign ‘Together We Are Beating Cancer’.

Exmouth based charity, Pete's Dragons, has launched a new campaign to highlight the services that are available to people in Devon that have been impacted by suicide in the lead up to World Suicide Prevention Day on Sunday 10th September.

The "Surviving Suicide" Campaign is being run in conjunction with Alright Mate? , a men's mental health charity. It tells the stories of people that have used the charities services after experiencing loss through suicide, and lets people know how they can get help should they ever need it.

Exeter local Katie Derrick and her team at Right at Home Exeter & Exmouth will be embarking on a hair-raising skydive to raise money for Alzheimer’s Society.

Local artist unlocks hidden talent

Local celebrity artist, Pete the Poet continued his vocational work this week at Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter. Well known for his local community mural artwork, Pete dedicates much of his time to bringing out the creative side of young and old alike.

Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI), which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has raised over £2,000 selling Exeter City Football Club (ECFC) replica kits from last season.
