One Devon launches county-wide conversation on neighbourhood health

People across Devon are invited to find out more and help shape the delivery of neighbourhood health across the county.

The national vision for neighbourhood health, set out in the 10 Year Health Plan for England and national Neighbourhood health framework , is to bring together GPs, community services, mental health, social care, voluntary organisations and local partners to provide more joined-up support in local communities. In September 2014 Northern Devon Healthcare Trust was reported as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ for the majority of the services provided (six of the eight areas inspected), and was required to make improvements in three specific aspects of care at North Devon District Hospital (NDDH): end of life care, emergency and urgent care and maternity and gynaecology services.

This time the inspectors visited between 5 and 7 August 2015 with a further unannounced visit on 17 August.

A big ‘thank you’ has been given to the Teignmouth community today for ‘loving your beach’ and helping Teignmouth Town Beach reach tough new EU bathing water quality standards.

It means every beach in Teignbridge meets the new classifications.

East Devon’s bathing waters cleaner than ever

The bathing waters at East Devon’s eight beaches have all passed the new stringent testing standards set by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).

The announcement of the 2015 bathing water quality results, which was made by Defra earlier today, revealed that four of the district’s beaches received an Excellent classification – which is the highest and cleanest class, while three received a Good water quality rating and one, Ladram Bay (which is privately owned and managed) a Sufficient rating.

New music written by Exeter based composers to mark Armistice Day will be performed by the Cathedral choir in a special concert.

Choirmaster and Acting Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral David Davies has composed a new musical setting of the famous Remembrance Day poem ‘They shall not grow old’ which will be performed for the first time on 11 November.

Butcher’s bangers boost funds for charity

British Sausage Week is now well underway, inviting the nation to celebrate one of our favourite comfort foods.

Exeter-based Andrew James butchery has got stuck in to Sausage Week, turning bangers to bucks for charity with the Exeter Chiefs.

When the Exeter Chiefs take on the Leicester Tigers on 7 November at Sandy Park, 50p from every sausage eaten during the match will be donated to the Exeter Foundation.

307 Squadron Project invites you to Exeter’s Guildhall, on 15 November 2015, to remember the Polish 307 Squadron that defended the South West of England during the Second World War.

This special event is being attended by The Polish Ambassador Witold Sobków.

307 Squadron, part of the RAF, were night-fighters who fought the Luftwaffe over the skies of Britain and prevented Exeter from being totally destroyed during the blitz on the city in 1942.

Police respond to HMIC Rape Monitoring Group report

In reponse to the HMIC Rape Monitoring Group report out today, Thursday 5 November, Detective Superintendent Keith Perkin, Head of the Public Protection Unit, said: “The increase in reports of rape in Devon and Cornwall is in line with the national average.

“The report indicates that 87% of the increased reports nationally, between October 2012 and March 2015, is as a consequence of Operation Yewtree, the investigation into Jimmy Saville. Devon and Cornwall have not been immune to this and a percentage of the increased reports are down to this.

Exe-Arts, the community arts initiative set up by Superact's Patsy Lang, has reached the halfway milestone after a busy two months of fun creative workshops for all ages in art forms ranging from environmental sculpture and photography to graffiti art and experimental drawing.

As a culmination of the project, many of the pieces will be exhibited at the community festival on 12th December, which will also include a lantern parade and live performances. Blind Devon veteran to march with guide dog on Remembrance Sunday

A blind veteran from Devon will march with his guide dog together with other blind veterans to the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday for Blind Veterans UK.

John Evans, 61 from Talaton, and his guide dog Johnny will join more than 100 other representatives of Blind Veterans UK, which this year celebrates its 100 years of service to vision impaired ex-Service men and women.

John served in the Royal Air Force from 1972 until 1978 where he worked as an Engineer. He trained at RAF Swinderby and later he was stationed at RAF Bicester and RAF Abingdon.
