A new research project will unite police and researchers to increase evidence-based knowledge, skills and problem solving approaches within policing.

Passengers were evacuated and all flights diverted after a suspicious item was found on a plane at Bristol Airport late on Saturday.

The airport has since reopened, but further delays are expected.

A statement from Bristol Airport said: "Police have been called after a suspicious item was found during a routine aircraft inspection following the arrival at Bristol Airport of Ryanair flight FR8297 from Alicante at 23:43 on Saturday 22 August."

Birds ‘shout’ to be heard over the noise produced by man-made activity, new research has shown.

The innovative study, led by an expert from the University of Exeter, looked at how bluebirds altered their songs in response to increases in nearby background noise caused, in many cases, by human activities such as traffic.

First Great Western (FGW) has issued details of disruption to its services if planned strikes by workers go ahead over the next couple of weeks.

The company has confirmed it expects to run the majority of London Thames Valley services but long distance and local rail services will be reduced, should the planned strike action go ahead.

Should industrial action go ahead it is likely to affect long distance and local rail services throughout Sunday 23 August and from Saturday 29 through to the end of service on Monday 31 August.
