Exeter ranked move-friendly city

Exeter has been named one of the UK’s least stressful cities to move to, thanks to strong infrastructure, good housing availability, and ease of access to short-term services.

In a new national study released by Pay Less for Storage, Exeter scored 74 out of 100 in the “move-friendliness” index, ranking joint 10th alongside Inverness, Lancaster and Ripon. The research measured practical relocation challenges like van hire access, local self-storage options, chain-free housing stock, and the availability of short-term rentals.

The countdown to Exeter’s new family pub restaurant has begun with the final touches being put to the Pinhoe Hoard. Set to open on the 21st September, the pub will offer a fresh chicken rotisserie and main course meals & specials, as well as an extensive range of drinks in a relaxed atmosphere. Grim reminder of WWI at RAMM

Scrutiny of objects collected at Exeter’s Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) during the First World War period has revealed a grim reminder of one the horrors of the First World War: the gas attacks which caused over a million casualties.

In 1919 RAMM was given a collection of German military equipment gathered by the British War Trophies Commission after the Armistice. Among the items is a gas mask worn by a German soldier in the trenches.

The mask covered the soldier’s eyes and mouth to limit injury by chemical gas, but the rest of the head remained...

State-of-the-art Audi dealership for Exeter

Hot on the heels of the opening of the new landmark VW dealership at Matford Green Business Park, it has been announced that a deal has been struck with Marshall Motor Holdings plc to develop a new state of the art Audi dealership.

A planning application has just been submitted to Exeter City Council to develop the new 31,000 sq ft dealership.

Lessons learned from Cranbrook says report

Devon County Council's Scrutiny Committees have today (Friday 11 September) reported their findings from a review of the Cranbrook development in East Devon.

The Task Group completed its review of the past, current and future development of the new town, having examined issues such the current physical and social infrastructure, the impact of the development on public services, and Cranbrook’s longer term opportunities.

The task group’s report states that “a huge amount has been achieved” since building work began at Cranbrook in June 2011.

Stagecoach bus service changes announced

From 20th September there will be a number of relatively minor service changes to Stagecoach bus routes operated under contract to Devon County Council. These are a result of cuts to the Devon County Council budget.

SWW fined £45k for E Devon pollution breach

South West Water has been fined £45,000 for breaching environmental controls at a sewage treatment plant where a broken screening device, compounded by a series of problems, led to discharges that contained excessive pollutants.

The case was brought by the Environment Agency.

The treatment plant at Dunkeswell, near Honiton, was already scheduled for improvement works when discharges breached agreed limits between May 2013 and May 2014.

Rhino spotted at Exeter School

Exeter School is delighted to receive a life-size juvenile rhino to decorate as part of 'The Great Big Rhino Project', a mass public art event which aims to raise awareness about conservation.

150 mourners say goodbye to brave Catherine

Around 150 mourners turned out to pay their respects to former Exeter journalist Catherine Fraser.

The 48-year-old mother of one died suddenly last month after a second bout of cancer.

Her funeral took place today at the Exeter & Devon Crematorium where there was standing room only.

Among those paying their respects were Exeter City FC manager Paul Tisdale and a number of players.

They were joined by director of football Steve Perryman and the club's vice chairman Julian Tagg.
