Police are appealing for witnesses following a knife-point robbery at a newsagent in Tiverton on Tuesday 27 October.

Officers were to Exe Valley News and Cards in Bampton Street around 7.40am after a masked man threatened the shopkeeper with a small knife and demanded cash from the till.

The male shopkeeper was unharmed but the suspect got away with a small amount of cash and made off towards Tiverton Market.

Lizards under threat from climate change

An Exeter University academic has contributed to a new study which demonstrates that common lizards are under threat from the climate predicted for the year 2100.

While there is no doubt that climate change is affecting many organisms, some species may be more sensitive than others – particularly reptiles, whose body temperature depends directly on environmental temperature.

Four arrests in Exeter graffiti operation

Four men have been arrested as part of a police operation to crackdown on a growing problem of graffiti damage in Exeter.

Exeter neighbourhood police are working with Exeter City Council to tackle the issue after numerous tags were sprayed on city buildings in recent months.

Officers have been focusing their efforts on the prolific tags ‘PHOKS’, ‘UKS’ and ‘REGS’ which have appeared across the city.

This October for breast cancer awareness month, Macmillan Cancer Support wants to raise awareness of the side effects faced by people living with or beyond the disease.

Breast cancer survival rates have been improving for 40 years. More women are surviving breast cancer than ever before, thanks to improvements in treatment and earlier diagnosis. The Exeter Northcott Theatre and Creative Cow are delighted to announce the cast for their magical new adaptation of Charles Dickens’ much-loved Christmas classic.

Leading the cast is celebrated local actor, Derek Frood, in the role of Ebenezer Scrooge. Derek was recently seen in BBC1’s Poldark and has previously entertained Devon audiences in his work with Theatre Alibi.

Fresh appeal after beach huts arson attack

Police have renewed their appeal for information into arson attacks which caused more than £30,000 damage at a Dawlish beach.

Eight beach huts at Coryton Cove were destroyed after being set alight in the early hours of Wednesday 16 September.

The fire spread and gutted a nearby boat while two benches were also wrecked by fire in a separate incident within a day of the attack.

Officers are continuing their enquiries into the arson attacks and appealing for the public’s help with the investigation.

Views sought on extended recycling trials

Households taking part in East Devon District Council’s recycling trials in new Feniton and Exmouth (The Colony) will soon be receiving a questionnaire to find out how the new service is working for them.

From mid-September, residents in these two areas have been using an improved service and have been able to collect cardboard and mixed plastics for the first time. These items, along with their usual extensive number of other recyclables including glass, metals, paper, plastic bottles, textiles and food waste, are collected from the kerbside every week.
