Staff give RD&E thumbs up in latest survey

Results from the latest annual NHS Staff Survey show once again that high numbers of RD&E staff would recommend the hospital as a place to work or receive treatment.

The 2015 survey results, released this week, also show that the level of staff satisfaction with the quality of work and patient care they deliver is above the national average for acute trusts. ‘Colour in Keith’ raises £365 for Exeter Foundation

A member of RGB Building Supplies’ Exeter team has raised a fantastic £365 for the Exeter Foundation by dying his hair a wonderful shade of violet.

For the past few weeks, RGB driver Keith Thomas has been inviting customers to make a donation to his ‘Colour in Keith’ appeal and vote on what colour, or pattern, his hair became.

City fans invited to play in Emirates FA Cup gaming tournament

Registering to play in the first ever Emirates FA Cup gaming tournament held at Wembley Stadium closes in one month (18 March 2016). Gamers and super fans from across the world are invited to enter for the chance to represent their team, compete for glory and the opportunity to lift the trophy and win tickets to the illustrious Emirates FA Cup Final on 21 May.

Fire crews tackle Broadclyst blaze

Fire crews from Exeter were called to tackle a blaze at a property in New Buidlings, Broadclsyt on Monday evening (22 February).

On arrival, crews confirmed the fire to be in the front room, and crews got to work using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, one safety jet and two dry powder extinguishers, together with a thermal image camera.

Crews on scene assisted with first aid to a man suffering smoke inhalation while waiting for ambulance crews to arrive.

Coastal car parks a target for antisocial behaviour

The National Trust has been working with the local Kingsbridge Police team to address a recent spate of vandalism in its car parks.

The beauty spots at Snapes Point, Bolberry Down and East Soar have recently suffered from fires, damage to grassland and vandalised signs and donation boxes.

Hannah Bolt, 25, a PhD student at Durham University, hailing from Exeter, is attending Parliament to present her chemistry research to a range of politicians and a panel of expert judges, as part of SET for Britain on Monday 7 March.

Hannah’s poster on the development of new treatments for cutaneous Leishmaniasis will be judged against dozens of other scientists’ research in the only national competition of its kind.

A group of councillors from East Devon District Council, Devon County Council and Ottery St Mary Town Council were recently put under the spotlight at King’s School in Ottery St Mary, when they were subjected to tough questions fired at them every three minutes by 180 Year 11 pupils during two rounds of political speed dating.

Minister officially opens Cranbrook station

Cranbrook Rail Station has been officially opened today (Monday 22 February).

Andrew Jones MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, attended the ceremonial opening where he unveiled a plaque.

Hourly services on the existing Waterloo Line, operated by South West Trains, started calling at the station last December. The single platform station was funded by Devon County Council and the Cranbrook New Community Partners, and was delivered on their behalf by Network Rail.
