Honorary degree for former Exeter MP

Former city MP Ben Bradshaw thanked University of Exeter students for “all they have given the city” as he joined their graduation ceremony to be given his own honorary degree.

Sir Ben’s award was in recognition of public service, including his achievements to boost the quality of schools in Exeter, bring jobs to the city and his campaigning for LGBT rights.

People will be able to see the documentary Lands End , which follows Barney Page on his 25-day journey skateboarding the 941 miles from John O’Groats to Land’s End. People can celebrate the Hindu Festival of Navratri at the University of Exeter with spectacular dancing and food.

Navratri honours the divine feminine energy. Students from the university’s Hindu Society hope others can join them as they mark the important nine-day festival.

There will be Garba, a form of traditional Gujarati dance. Traditionally, the dance is performed by women in a circle around a clay lantern with a light inside to represent the womb. The word "garba" comes from the Sanskrit word garbha, which means womb.

President of the Lib Dems, Mark Pack, visited Exeter last Friday 13th October to a warm welcome from a packed room of local members.

Particularly touching was when Mark described the difference one Lib Dem MP can make. This is exhibited every Saturday with marriages happening all over the country since a Liberal Democrat MP, Lynne Featherstone, put gay marriage on the agenda one decade ago.

Officers from Devon & Cornwall Police are supporting a national week of action to strengthen relationships between retail, security staff and police in an effort to tackle business crime.

Tesco shoppers in Exminster give £5,000 to Exeter School

A Tesco shopper in Exminster has chosen to give £5,000 to St Peter's Church of England Aided School, Exeter as part of its Stronger Starts campaign.

Support for bus lane improvements

Devon County Council’s Cabinet agreed yesterday (Wednesday 11 October) to advertise traffic regulation orders for a £525,000 bus lane scheme in Roundswell and a £400,000 scheme in Exeter City Centre which form part of Devon’s Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP).

Both schemes, which will use a share of the £14.1 million BSIP funding awarded to Devon by the Department for Transport last year, aim to achieve better bus journey times.
