Honorary degree for former Exeter MP

Former city MP Ben Bradshaw thanked University of Exeter students for “all they have given the city” as he joined their graduation ceremony to be given his own honorary degree.

Sir Ben’s award was in recognition of public service, including his achievements to boost the quality of schools in Exeter, bring jobs to the city and his campaigning for LGBT rights.

With the clocks going back this Sunday (29 October), Devon County Council is reminding all road users to help play their part in keeping each other safe. Everyone using Devon’s roads is being urged to take extra care this autumn and winter. Motorists are asked to look out for more vulnerable road users as daylight hours are reduced and to give them plenty of time and space. Innovate UK announce Government funding to support innovation and growth in the region’s marine and maritime sectors

Look out for fly-tippers warning after bins used to dump building waste

People in Exeter are being urged to keep an eye out for instances of fly-tipping after three litter bins in the city were used to dump builder’s waste in, including what looks like used asbestos material.

The City Council said three litter bins in Burnthouse Lane had been sealed off, whilst a specialist asbestos removal company took the contents away.

The disposal costs are likely to be around £450.
