The magnificent nave of Exeter Cathedral, which houses the longest continuous vaulted ceiling in Europe, is to return to its medieval roots for the hosting of a Spring Fair. The event is sponsored by Bonhams and takes place on Thursday 10th March 2016. Unlike its medieval ancestor, the modern day Spring Fair will be a quieter affair (no trading in live animals!) and will feature an array of stalls selling crafts and artisan gifts, and visitors will also be able to take time out to enjoy a traditional Devon Cream Tea provided by the Cathedral Café. The market will run between the Cathedral'...

Extreme weather threatens Britain’s coastline

Britain’s rocky coastline is being reshaped and eroded by the increasingly common extreme weather, University of Exeter researchers have found.

Rock coasts erode quickly and are more vulnerable to stormy weather than previously thought, a new study shows.

According to the first data collected on how they behaved before, during and after a storm large boulders can shift daily. It is hoped the research will allow erosion risk and sediment supplied from rocky coasts to be more accurately measured in future.

The data also shows that rock coasts have the potential to...

Increasing urban property prices and falling land values could be fuelling a rise in new rural business start-ups, the latest survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and Royal Agricultural University (RAU) indicates. By contrast, property developers accounted for only 1% of rural land sales over the same period, a decrease of 4%. Sales to individual farmers rose from 56%...
