Dementia UK shares the signs and symptoms of dementia to look out for ahead of free clinics in South West

Nationwide and Dementia UK’s free face-to-face clinics are returning to Nationwide’s Torquay, Plymouth and Exmouth branches this February, offering specialist support in a safe, comfortable and private space for people to discuss any aspect of dementia.

Hosted by Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses, the clinics are open to anyone impacted by dementia, offering life-changing support to families and individuals in the area. Appointments can be booked via Dementia UK’s website here .

Blackpool hosted the National Young Farmers ballroom dancing competition finals, which saw eight teams from across England and Wales compete.

Haldon Group of Young Farmers representing Devon were delighted to walk away with a well-deserved third place, in the finals which saw stiff competition from other teams. Clun Valley YFC from Shropshire and Hermon YFC from Pembrokeshire came first and second respectively.

Malicious calls made to Devon schools

An Exeter school and two others in the South West have received malicious calls, police have said this evening.

Although they were all hoaxes, officers are taking the incidents seriously.

A spokesman said: “We are aware that hoax calls have been made to a number of schools across the country today, and have been informed of malicious calls being made to three schools within Devon and Cornwall.

“The first call was to Pinhoe School in Exeter, the second call was received at Devonport High School for Girls in Plymouth, and the third was to Charlestown Primary School,...

Cathedral and Quay car park closed Wednesday

Exeter's Cathedral and Quay car park will be closed for one day on Wednesday (25 May) to enable a deep clean to be carried out.

All business and resident permit holders for this car park are being notified and asked to find alternative parking for Wednesday. They are advised that their parking permits will be honoured in any Exeter City Council pay and display car parks for this one day.

The Council apologises for any inconvenience that this may cause.

Deceased Exeter baby's foot and hand prints stolen

Police were called just after 2pm on Sunday 22nd May after items of huge sentimental importance were stolen from a white Honda Estate which was parked near the commercial boat builders on Water Lane, Alphington, Exeter.

Sergeant Colin Harper, Exeter Neighbourhood Team Leader, said: "This is a particularly cruel crime, as the items stolen are of huge sentimental importance.

Body found in Devon park

At 0300 hours on Sunday 22nd May hours police discovered a body in Cary Park Reddenhill Rd Torquay.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained. Enquiries are ongoing and police would like to speak with a group of males aged 18-22 who were in the park at approximately 0200 hours on 22nd May.

Another success for Exeter’s Really Big Quiz

Exeter’s 13th annual Really Big Quiz was once again an outstanding evening raising an impressive £6,411 for the Lord Mayor of Exeter’s charity, The Exeter Foundation.

Organised by chartered accountancy firm Simpkins Edwards, the quiz took place at the Corn Exchange in Exeter. The hall was filled with 73 teams representing local firms, all eager to win the title of Exeter’s brainiest business.

Three Chiefs players named for Australian tour

England Head Coach Eddie Jones has named three Exeter Chiefs players in his squad for the three-Test tour to Australia.

Northampton Saints’ back-row forward Teimana Harrison is included in the 32-man squad, as well as 21-year-old Leicester Tigers tight-head prop Ellis Genge.

Over the years Gareth Steenson has enjoyed his fair share of magic moments in the colours of Exeter Chiefs.

The weather may have been dodgy, the economic outlook uncertain and farming in dire straits, but none of that stopped over 90,000 visitors enjoying the gigantic three day celebration of farming, food and rural life which is the Devon County Show.
