Teenagers robbed and assaulted in Exeter

Police in Exeter are investigating an assault and robbery that took place in the St Thomas area of the city on Monday night, 9th May 2016.

At around 7pm two men, aged 17 and 18, were approached by three strangers in Merrivale Park.

The three suspects, all described as wearing black or grey hoodies which were up and face masks or balaclavas, attacked the two men.

The 17 year-old suffered a slight facial injury while the 18 year-old was repeatedly hit over the head.

He was treated by an ambulance crew at the scene and taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter...

More Sunday trains to run between Exeter and Exmouth

Great Western Railway (GWR) will run extra trains on Sundays between Exeter Central and Exmouth from 15 May.

Trains will run every half hour through most of the day on Sundays throughout the year, instead of the previous hourly service; with a number extending to Exeter St Davids. All trains will call at Digby & Sowton, Newcourt, Topsham and Lympstone Village stations.

Morning trains to Exmouth and afternoon trains back will also call at Polsloe Bridge, providing more opportunities for a seaside day trip to Exmouth.

Devon sex offender jailed for 28 years

On Friday 6 May a man from Starcross was sentenced at Truro Crown Court to 28 years in prison for historic sexual abuse dating back to the 1990s.

Robert Singleton, 33, was convicted of committing ten serious sexual assaults against four young girls in Starcross and nearby villages between 1995 and 2013.

At the conclusion of the trial at Exeter Crown Court on Friday 29 April 2016, Singleton (pictured) was found guilty by the jury of all of the offences.

A Devon-based orchestra has left its usual habitat of rehearsal studios and concert halls behind to take part in a very different kind of photoshoot promoting its latest concert.

Members of the Exeter Symphony Orchestra recently went wild to promote ‘A Concert for Wildlife’ which takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday 16th July at Exeter Cathedral.

Residents and commuters could win an ipad if they share their travelling habits to help inform a pioneering project to cut congestion in Exeter.

The results of the online survey, which went live on Monday 2 May 2016, will help transport experts devise ways to cut traffic congestion in and around the City and improve the daily commute.

Dartmoor National Park Authority’s Planning Committee has approved a major planning application in Chagford that will see the community continue to thrive for years to come.

The development, put forward by CG Fry & Son Ltd, is for 93 houses, new public car park and link road, employment space, new fire station, public toilets, and public open space. It includes 28 affordable homes and is one of the largest housing developments to be approved within the National Park.

Man tasered at Exeter shopping centre

A man has been Tasered after an incident in Exeter this morning (10 May).

Police were called reports of a man acting strangely, possibly in possession of a weapon, near King William Street car park in Exeter at around 1.15am.

The suspect was found at the Guildhall Shopping Centre, near the High Street entrance, at around 3.30am.

A Taser was used by police to immobilise the man, who was then taken to hospital.

Coastal Recycling wins major green waste contract

Coastal Recycling has been awarded a ten year contract to process green waste collected from the kerbside and from Household Waste Recycling Centres on behalf of Devon County Council.

This will enable the firm to continue their award-winning composting service, converting green waste into quality compost to be used in the production of food and farming.

Starting in April 2017, the deal will see Coastal Recycling expanding to process an estimated 42,000 tonnes of organic waste, such as plants, grass and garden cuttings.
