UKinbound has announced that Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, will host for the first time, next year’s milestone 40thAnniversary Annual Convention, which will take place from 08-10 February 2017. Scientists at the University of Exeter will be leading two major multi-million pound world-class research projects after winning funding to investigate climate change.

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) has awarded two prestigious grants to multi-disciplinary teams of researchers headed by Professor Mat Collins, a Climate Modeller and Joint Met Office Chair in Climate Change and Professor Steve Hesselbo, Professor of Geology at the Camborne School of Mines, based at the Penryn Campus in Cornwall.

A University of Exeter Renewable Energy doctoral student focusing on wave energy has claimed first prize and £1200 at an international conference.

Exercise helps patients with heart failure live longer

Exercise is associated with a longer life in patients with heart failure, according to research by the University of Exeter Medical School.

The findings are presented today at Heart Failure 2016 and the 3rd World Congress on Acute Heart Failure. This research included data from more than 4000 patients, and showed that patients who exercised had lower risk of mortality regardless of heart failure severity, age, and gender, compared with similar patients who did not exercise.

Temporary traffic lights will be introduced overnight on Bridge Road in Exeter this evening (Tuesday 24 May) from 11pm until 5am tomorrow morning (Wednesday 25 May).

The temporary signals are needed to allow the contractor safe working space to install a new temporary pedestrian crossing to access the Boat Club. This temporary access is needed during work on the Swing Bridge, which is due to start imminently.

More money is available to help victims of child sexual abuse and exploitation in Devon and Cornwall. Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez is inviting bids from local organisations for a share of £140,000 funding provided to her by the Ministry of Justice. Ms Hernandez wants to ensure that every child who suffers sexual abuse is given the right support by well trained professionals when they need it and for as long as they need it. “Although there is a great deal of excellent work going on, this will allow specialist service providers to offer more targeted support for victims.”...

Children of St Martin’s Primary School have been creating a new poster design to encourage Cranbrook residents to clean up after their dogs.

Children at the school recently heard from Cranbrook Councillor Karen Jennings at an assembly about the dog fouling around the town. Children were asked if they could help teach adults to be responsible pet owners, to help make Cranbrook a great place to live.
