Man seriously hurt in East Devon collision

Just before 8am on Monday 6th June 2016 a four vehicle collision occurred on an unclassified road between Dunkeswell and Hemyock in East Devon.

A motorcyclist, riding an Aprilla bike, collided with a Volkswagon Golf. Debris from this collision then damaged two other vehicles.

The motorcyclist, a man in his forties from Somerset, was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious and life changing injuries to his arm and leg.

No one else was injured in the collision.

The Point at Exmouth Quay takes shape

A giant skeleton steel frame is rapidly rising near Exmouth Quay as The Point waterside apartments take shape. Over the next six weeks, the frame currently at the first floor, will reach its full height of 20 metres.

The Point is being developed by Eagle One Homes and will deliver fourteen high quality waterside apartments by the end of the year.

The steel frame sits on a solid concrete foundation on top of piles up to 21 metres deep. In all over 60 tonnes of European manufactured steel will be used and up to 60% of the steel is recycled making it a very sustainable option...

Pregnant woman trapped in crash

Two fire appliances from Middlemoor and Danes Castle were sent to reports of a three vehicle accident, where one car had rolled over and the occupant trapped.

The accident happened in Pinhoe Road, Exeter at just before 7pm yesterday.

On arrival crews confirmed four vehicles were involved and a pregnant woman was trapped in a vehicle.

Crews used hydraulic rescue equipment and small tools to release her.

The government has isssued a detailed statement regarding BHS.

Administrators are in the process of winding the business down and yesterday Anna Soubry, Minister of State for Small Business, Industry and Enterprise updated the House of Commons.

And she stresssed that any wrongdoing would be taken very seriously.

Littleham Community Festival is a winner

Staff from the East Devon Homes Community Development service at East Devon District Council did an outstanding job organising the Littleham Community Festival, which took place on Saturday 14 May.

This action packed event proved a hit with local residents, with around 240 people of all ages turning out to take part in a wide range of fun activities. Funtasia Entertainment provided an outdoor skittle alley and a fun-fair style stall with plenty of prizes. Exeter to host new deaf-inclusive active outdoors club

On Wednesday 8 June, from 7-9pm, local charity Exeter Deaf Academy is inviting Deaf people and their families to a free opening of the new Active Outdoors Community Club, at Haven Banks Outdoor Education Centre, on Exeter Quay.

Thanks to funding from Awards for All England, who have awarded a lottery grant of £4,655 towards this yearlong community project, the new Deaf-inclusive club will be offering taster sessions of canoeing, kayaking, archery, sailing and caving in an accessible environment.

Police tackle modern day slavery

Last week from 30 May to 3 June five south west police forces took part in a pan-European week of action on modern slavery, looking particularly at labour exploitation. Operation Hornsman was a multi-agency initiative led by the National Crime Agency (NCA).

The forces involved in the south west were Devon and Cornwall Police, Avon and Somerset Police, Dorset Police, Gloucestershire Constabulary and Wiltshire Police. The regional response was co-ordinated by Devon and Cornwall police.

Student rent prices soar in Exeter

Students at the University of Exeter are facing increased rent payments as on-campus accommodation prices soar ahead for the 2016/17 academic year.

The cheapest accommodation, Moberly House, is set to close in the summer for a new self-catered residence. Students fear this could be the end of affordable accommodation halls.

Phil Attwell, Director of Campus Services at the university said: “The building is in need of some investment… we would like to enhance the facilities on offer by providing high quality accommodation.”

Police investigate assault in Devon park

Officers are investigating an assault which occurred at Courtenay Park, Newton Abbot and are appealing for information.

The incident occurred near to the entrance of the park at approx 8.30pm on Saturday 4th June, and saw two men assault and steal alcohol from a 29-year-old victim.

The victim sustained facial injuries during the attack, and a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has since been bailed until the 4th of July pending further enquiries.
