Visit Devon have appointed a new board, Chair and Company Secretary to develop Visit Devon as the go to company for tourism and hospitality businesses located in Devon.

The Community Interest Company will work on behalf of the tourism and hospitality industry to promote Devon within the UK and overseas to attract new and additional visitors to the county.

Teens hospitalised after taking prescription drugs

On Friday 3 June 2016 a number of teenagers in Sidmouth took a prescription only drug called Alprazolam, which is manufactured as Xanax.

Five teenagers, aged 17 and 18, were seriously ill as a result and were treated in intensive care at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

Officers form CID and the local policing team in Sidmouth are investigating the matter and enquiries are continuing.

An 18-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of supplying the drugs and is currently on bail until 22 August pending further enquiries.

Exeter City scores Dementia Action hat trick

Exeter City Football Club has scored a dementia action hat trick.

Three of its organisations have been accepted as members of the Exeter Dementia Action Alliance and can now proudly use the ‘Working to become Dementia Friendly’ logo. Appeal after man exposes himself in Exeter

Police are appealing for information after a man exposed himself in the St Thomas area of Exeter.

A woman called police at 3am on Sunday 12 June to report a sighting a man who was walking barefoot and naked from the waist down. He was wearing a hooded top and is described as white, of medium to stocky build and in his late thirties to early forties.

The incident happened near St Thomas the Apostle’s Church. Officers from the neighbourhood policing team conducted an area search but were not able to locate the man.

Canoeists help keep East Devon beach clean

On Monday 6 June members of the public along with the Axe Vale Canoe Club and East Devon District Council Countryside team enjoyed an evening’s canoeing along the coast.

The guided trip from Beer to Branscombe took in the sights of the Jurassic coast from the water. Experienced canoeists from the Axe Vale Canoe Club led the way, while East Devon's Countryside Rangers provided expert knowledge on the local wildlife.

Falls awareness day in Sidmouth

Members of the public are being invited to a special event which will highlight and address the risks of a person having a fall.

The event will be held at the Methodist Church in Sidmouth on 22 June 2016, between 10-12am, and people are invited to drop in at any time.

A number of professionals and services will be on hand to talk about the risks of having a fall. They will also provide practical functional advice on how to avoid falls and how to keep mobile and healthy. Refreshments will be provided.
