A street trader caught illegally operating in Exeter city centre has been ordered to pay £2,969 in fines and costs

Leonard Grey of Frog Lane, Bristol was found guilty at Exeter Magistrates Court on Wednesday 13 July of three offences of illegally street trading under Schedule 4, Section 10 (1) (a) of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. He was fined £200 per offence and full costs were awarded of £2,369.

New women only marathon announced for Devon

A new women-only marathon has been announced for Devon in 2017 to mark the 50th anniversary of a famous incident which helped pave the way for women to be able to officially take part in marathons.

The Women Can marathon on 28 May 2017 is almost entirely off-road, taking in the breathtaking Otter and Sid Valleys and part of the South West Coast Path on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in East Devon.

Exeter pub evacuated after fire

An Exeter pub was evacuated this morning after a tumble drier caught fire.

Fire crews were called just before 1am to the Mill on the Exe in Bonhay Road after the landlord reported the laundry room within the property was smoke logged. Firefighters instructed the landlord to evacuate the building and three pumping appliances from Exeter were mobilsed to the scene.

Upon arrival the area in and around the ground floor laundry room were found to be heavily smoke logged.
