Visitors to this year’s Honiton Show on August 4 could win a prize by estimating the value of an item to be sold at auction in September.

On display at the Chilcotts Auctioneers’ stand, number 28 in Avenue A, will be an antique miniature chest.

Visitors to the stand are invited to take a guess at the price the item will sell for when it goes up for auction at the Chilcotts September 10 ‘Fine Art, Antiques and Collectors’ Items’ sale at the Silver Street Sale Room.

Pedestrian seriously injured in A380 collision

Police were called by the ambulance service shortly after 4am on Saturday 30th July 2016 with a report that a 24 year old male pedestrian had been in collision with a white Peugeot van on the A380.

The incident happened 1km south of the Penn Inn roundabout on the Torquay bound lane of the dual carriageway.

The pedestrian lives outside the force area. The driver of the van is 49 and from Dawlish.

The van was travelling towards Torquay and it appears that the pedestrian was crossing the carriageway towards the central reservation when he was struck by the vehicle....

With the expensive winter housing period for dairy cows getting ever closer, South West farmers’ leaders have underlined how important it is that increased market returns for milk processors are quickly passed back to farm businesses.

A 10 per cent decline in milk production over recent months combined with favourable exchange rates – making imports more expensive – and increasing spot prices for milk should all mean increased returns for processors, which must be passed on to dairy farmers who can ill afford to wait.

An expert on the psychology of political crisis is to receive this year’s Presidents’ Award for Distinguished Contributions to Psychological Knowledge from the British Psychological Society.

Support for the disabled at Blue Light Day

If you have a disability, or you know someone who has, please come along to the Blue Light day on 10th August.

It’s free to attend and is being held at St Luke’s Science & Sports College, Exeter between 10am and 2pm.

The event aims to give people with disabilities advice about the emergency services and help break down any barriers that are felt within the community.

Work has finished on £46,850 of eagerly awaited improvements to East Devon District Council’s Bowling Green/Millers Way and Langford Avenue play areas in Honiton and the two play areas are now open and ready for action.

Escaped lynx back in captivity

A lynx that escaped from Dartmoor Zoo in Devon has been captured - after more than three weeks on the run.

The Carpathian lynx, the size of a large domestic cat, was found after walking into a humane trap and is now back at the zoo.

Zoo owner Ben Mee told BBC Radio Devon it was "a huge relief" to have got the animal back.

He said that they had been "living in the hope" that he would wander into a trap looking for food.

Flaviu was found near the Hemerdon Plantation woodland which is close to the zoo.

The fiancée of a former Royal Marine who died in a climbing accident in the French Alps has posted a heartfelt message celebrating their love on facebook.

Duncan Potts died on Wednesday as he climbed the Dent du Geant mountain in the Mont Blanc range near Chamonix.

The 28-year-old, who recently became engaged, was with a friend when a rock came loose in his hands and he fell around ten feet, the Telegraph reported.

The rock hit him on the head and shoulders and despite a mountain rescue team reaching him, he died at the scene.
