RGB charity golf day raises over £2,000

RGB Building Supplies recently raised a fantastic £2,035 for its nominated charity, Prostate Cancer UK, during a golf day held at Bovey Castle in association with Exeter City FC. A total of 27 teams made up of suppliers, customers, staff and Exeter City players took part in the day with a team representing RGB’s Exeter branch winning the fourball competition and being awarded the Andy Shinner Memorial Trophy. Bats in East Devon should see a better future thanks to the generous response to a Devon Wildlife Trust fundraising appeal – but more support is needed for the target to be met.

The Devon Greater Horseshoe Bat Project works to secure the future of one of Europe’s rarest bats – and the wildlife-rich farmland and woodland they rely on. The project works around several key maternity roosts in Devon including one near Branscombe and one near Southleigh.

Severe weather warning issued for weekend

A severe weather warning has been issued by the Met Office as unseasonably strong winds - gusting at up to 60mph - are expected to batter Devon.

A spell of unseasonably strong southwesterly winds, accompanied by heavy, blustery showers, is expected to reach the South West UK during the early hours of Saturday, moving east across many parts of England and Wales through the day.

Overnight closure planned on Bridge Road

Bridge Road in Exeter will be closed overnight on Thursday 25 August.

The road will be closed from 10pm until 5am the following morning to change the traffic management.

Traffic will be moved to the east (downstream) side of Countess Wear Bridge, to enable work to start on the upstream area.

Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary is holding a ‘Dexter’ event on August Bank Holiday weekend, to highlight the importance of local sourcing.

The Dexter beef will be served as super-sized steak and chips cooked in beef dripping at the ethical restaurant in Yonder Street on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 August.

Rusty Pig owner Robin Rea believes that local sourcing has become ever more popular, and says there are more benefits than may be immediately obvious.

Excitement runs high for ‘City to Sea’ team challenge

On Saturday 3 September, a dedicated team of 11 staff from Princesshay shopping centre in Exeter will be competing in the tough ‘City to Sea’ marathon and ultramarathon to raise money for Exeter Deaf Academy.

City to Sea is a challenging 26.58 mile run or walk starting from Exeter’s historic quayside. Exeter School celebrates excellent A Level results

Exeter School pupils, parents and staff are celebrating a set of excellent A Level results.

Thirty-four pupils scored three or more A* or A grades with 18% at A*. Over half of all grades were A* and A with 83% at A*, A and B.

The school is particularly proud of its record number of medical offers this year with 11 pupils going on to study Medicine, two to study Veterinary Science and one to study Physiotherapy.

Warning after thefts from cars on Woodbury Common

Police are warning the public not to leave valuables on show following reports of cars being broken into within Woodbury Common.

On Wednesday 17th August, two cars were broke into near Uphams car park between 2.45-3.30pm.

A grey Peugeot 208 had its window smashed and a search of bags that were within the car took place. A silver Ford Focus was also broken into by the same means and a handbag stolen.
