The highly anticipated Learn to Play event, a flagship initiative by the UK charity Music for All, is returning this autumn, offering anyone the opportunity to experience the joys of music-making. The event will take place from 9-12 October 2025 in Crediton, Devon, hosted by Crediton Youth Orchestra. It is open to everyone, regardless of age, background, or experience, providing a free taster music lesson to encourage new and lapsed musicians alike.

Cadets on parade in 10th anniversary celebrations

Police cadets from all over Devon and Cornwall were on parade at police Headquarters in Exeter on Saturday to celebrate the formation of their Community Police Cadet force exactly 10 years ago.

The event was lead by Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer who is the National Police Chief’s Council lead for Community Police Cadets. Princesshay Honey Flow Light Box unveiled

Princesshay has unveiled a new art installation in celebration of its work in urban bee conservation. The Princesshay Honey Flow Light Box has been created by Exeter-based artist Amy Shelton and features pressed samples of flowering plants and trees favoured by bees. The illuminated artwork has been installed below the Princesshay Rooftop Garden and Apiary in Bampfylde Lane, opposite Princesshay’s customer service office.

Stagecoach launches new smartphone app

Stagecoach South West has launched a new app that will make bus journeys even easier for passengers.

The new Stagecoach Bus app is available free of charge for Apple and Android mobile phones, simply search ‘Stagecoach Bus’. It offers a range of additional customer benefits, including improved journey information.

But the company warned that urgent action is needed on worsening road congestion if the bus passengers are to get the full benefit of the new technology.

On Sunday 18th September the Fore Street Collective hosted their very first Fore Street Flea Market, an event that saw the street closed to traffic to make way for a wonderful array of stalls and activity.

The local West Quarter traders took their chance to spread their wares on to the street, with many of the shops opening additional Sunday hours to capture the swarms of regular and new customers exploring the area. On Saturday 8th October, Waterstones at Roman Gate will celebrate the launch of its new bookshop café with a day of family entertainment.

The launch will be a community event with the opportunity for customers to meet some of the café’s local suppliers and to enjoy a free hot drink with every cake purchase*. Cleaning company director found guilty of fraud

A company director who offered to clean carpets in Devon and West Sussex at rock-bottom prices before hiking them up by 1,000 per cent has been found guilty of fraud.

At Exeter Crown Court on Friday 23 September, Adam Joseph Vallier, 34, of Hannington Road, Pokesdown, Bournemouth, was convicted of misleading consumers following a five-day trial.

The successful prosecution follows an investigation by Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service.

Vallier traded under A Star Carpet Cleaning Ltd and Premier Carpet Cleaning Ltd from addresses in Dorset and Bournemouth...

Sandy Park Junction upgrade to get underway

Work on improvements to the A379 Sandy Park Junction in Exeter will get underway on Monday (3 October).

The existing junction, which is currently used to access Sandy Park rugby ground and David Lloyd leisure centre, has a ‘left-in, left-out’ traffic system.

The £2.5 million upgrade will create a signalised junction which will allow all traffic movements – including right turns in and out of the site in order to improve access to planned employment and housing development in the Newcourt area of the city.

RD&E Trust Chairman supports need for big changes in NHS in Devon

Speaking at the Royal Devon & Exeter’s NHS Foundation Trust’s (RD&E) Annual Members’ Meeting on Saturday 24 September, Trust Chairman, James Brent, highlighted the need for changes to be made to the way in which care is delivered in Devon but also said that people will need to take greater responsibility for their own health and well-being.
