Exeter ranked move-friendly city

Exeter has been named one of the UK’s least stressful cities to move to, thanks to strong infrastructure, good housing availability, and ease of access to short-term services.

In a new national study released by Pay Less for Storage, Exeter scored 74 out of 100 in the “move-friendliness” index, ranking joint 10th alongside Inverness, Lancaster and Ripon. The research measured practical relocation challenges like van hire access, local self-storage options, chain-free housing stock, and the availability of short-term rentals.

Violent wind collision zone between two stars seen for first time

The tumultuous region between two stars, where violent winds crash together at speeds of up to 10 million km per hour, has been revealed for the first time, thanks to state of the art infrared imaging techniques.

A team of international researchers, including Professor Stefan Kraus from the University of Exeter, have gained unique images of the chaotic region found between the two stars in the Eta Carinae binary system, found 7,500 light years from Earth.

Overturned car closes A38

Drivers faced long delays after a car overturned on the A38 today (Thursday 20 October).

The collision happened on the Plymouth-bound carriageway at Kennford.

One fire appliance from Exeter Middlemoor and two from Exeter Danes Castle, were mobilised to the above location following a call from police informing of a road traffic collision just after 10.30am.

There have been disturbing reports that equine behaviourist and adventuress Emma Massingale, plus an array of animals have been there late at night, making a new short film exclusively for Mole Valley Farmers, showcasing the group’s newest store.

Budleigh Salterton youngsters decide on new sports facility

Voting results will now be considered by district council and Budleigh Town Council

Young people from Budleigh Salterton have had their say on a new sports facility, which is being run as a joint project between Budleigh Salterton Town Council and East Devon District Council.

In 2014, over 300 Budleigh Salterton residents gave their opinion on how to spend money on outdoor sports in the town. Their preferred choices were a new outdoor gym and foot/cycle path improvements for The Green - both of which have been put in place.

Students at Dawlish Community College took part in a workshop as part of exetreme imagination, Exeter’s festival of writing and stories.

Spaces to be Yourself focused on the themes and characters found in Meg Rosoff’s young adult novel How I Live Now. Participants were encouraged to explore how protagonist Daisy’s life is changed when she is forced to live in an environment which is totally alien to her, and to reflect on how spaces, both familiar and unfamiliar, affect their own experiences and emotions.

The majority of UK construction sectors are experiencing a slowdown in growth, as Brexit uncertainty continues to cause concern, according to the latest Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Construction Market Survey.

While 26% more chartered surveyors reported that construction workloads in the UK had risen, rather than fallen this quarter, this is a significant slowdown on the trend growth over the previous three years.

Two local mums are launching a brand new pop up children’s market this month.
