Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

Man dies following collision on A379

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision between a car and a pedestrian that left one man fatally injured.

Stephen McKay, from Newton Abbot, was fatally injured in the collision which happened on Thursday 1 December 2016.

Police were called at around 3pm following reports of a collision between a man in his 50’s and a Citroen Picasso on the A379 at Holcombe, Dawlish.

The first stage of a commuter-driven initiative designed to help reduce traffic congestion has revealed some fascinating results, organisers have said.

Experts from the University of Exeter launched the project earlier this year to determine what factors influence the time and routes chosen by people travelling to and from the city.

An expert in medical education has been awarded the prestigious President’s International Medal.

Adrian Freeman, Professor of Medical Education at the University of Exeter Medical School, said winning the accolade was a “real honour”.

The medal, awarded only occasionally by the Royal College of General Practitioners, recognises meritorious commitment and service to the development of general practice or family medicine.

Shed donation helps green-fingered deaf student bloom

A project to help re-engage students with education has been boosted thanks to a generous donation from an Exeter Deaf Academy supporter.

Exeter Deaf Academy’s Hub supports students who may find it difficult to engage with education in a traditional classroom setting. The Academy’s Positive Engagement Team, who run The Hub, follow a methodology which is centred around giving more quality time and 1:1 support combined with positive reinforcement to promote a want to learn and enable a student back into the classroom.

The last Antiques and Decorative sale of the year for Sidmouth based auctioneers Potburys ended on a high with a five figure sale price and record buyer interest.

Stagecoach South West has confirmed details of its Christmas bus services, with services operating throughout the holiday period excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Buses across the network will finish early on both Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve with the majority of services ending around 8.30pm on both days. Fans travelling to Sandy Park for the Christmas Eve Chiefs match are advised that the last C bus will leave Sandy Park at 8.30pm.

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, will be delivering hampers to homeless dogs this Christmas after 170 homelessness organisations requested parcels for 1200 dogs. With the number of people rough sleeping in England doubling since 2010, this service is as vital as ever [1] The charity will be delivering gifts to homelessness organisations in Exeter for almost 30 dogs.
