Exeter Racecourse launches Community Raceday and calls for Devon’s community heroes

Exeter Racecourse has launched a brand-new Community Raceday and is inviting people across Devon to nominate a community hero who deserves recognition.

Community Raceday takes place on Friday, February 20, during half term, and coincides with Devon Day at the racecourse. The initiative celebrates the people who make a real difference in their communities – from volunteers and carers to sports coaches, fundraisers and quiet grafters who go above and beyond.

Every nominee will receive a free ticket to Exeter Racecourse, and one overall winner will be treated to a Family...

Exeter Chiefs parking initiative raises over £1,600

Exeter Chiefs and Ashfords LLP have recently combined forces making Ashfords' car park on the Exeter Business Park available for the park-and-ride service to the Exeter Chiefs stadium at Sandy Park. Exeter Chiefs run the service but have donated a generous £1,650 from the parking fees which Ashfords has put towards their fundraising total for their charity of the year, Parkinson's UK.

National Wildlife Operation Award for multi-agency operation

Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service (DSTSS) , Devon and Cornwall Police and Avon and Somerset Constabulary have been recognised for a joint anti-poaching operation.

The three organisations received a runner up award for the National Wildlife Crime Operation of the Year at the National Wildlife Enforcers Conference.

It follows a joint anti-poaching operation earlier this year on Exmoor and work to prevent the illegal supply of poached meat into the food chain.

When a Freemasons Lodge was first established in Moretonhampstead a town on Dartmoor in 1932 they purchased the freehold of their present building.

Exeter Chamber raises £1,600 for charities at networking lunch

Exeter Chamber of Commerce raised a total of £1675 for 11 local charities at this year’s Christmas charity auction lunch. Held at the Mercure Southgate Hotel, the event attracted over 100 Exeter business people giving them the opportunity for some festive networking and to bid for some fantastic prizes. Stagecoach revamps Park & Ride to create new cross city connection

Stagecoach South West announced today that, starting from 3 January 2017, it is merging its Blue, SR4 (Sowton) and Green (Matford) park and ride services.

This will create a new cross-city connection with the route simply branded as ‘Green’ park and ride. The Red park and ride timetable, serving Honiton Road, will remain unchanged.

The new service will operate up to every 15 minutes, 6 days a week, with the end-to-end journey taking around half an hour.

A Christmas party for children organised by Exeter charity Dream-A-Way was given a festive boost thanks to the local Tesco Extra store. Man injured after falling off tractor trailer

At around 4pm on Saturday 17 December 2016, police were informed that a collision had taken place involving a tractor that was towing a single axle agricultural trailer close to Harts Farm, Hemyock, close to the Devon, Somerset border (Cullompton area).

A number of passengers were riding on the trailer when one of them fell off and went under the trailer and was run over by one of the trailer’s wheels.

The casualty, a man aged 64 who lives in a nearby village suffered severe abdominal injuries and was airlifted to Derriford hospital in Plymouth.

Ladies Do Lunch at Exeter Cookery School

Ladies Do Lunch enjoyed an early Christmas lunch at Exeter Cookery School on the Quayside, where they picked up a whole range of seasonal hints and tips from chef/director Jim Fisher (pictured middle of back row).

He demonstrated several recipes including creating a selection of seasonal canapés which were much enjoyed with a glass of champagne.

Then the ladies enjoyed a roast turkey lunch followed by caramelized oranges Jim had prepared earlier, served with his Christmas pudding ice cream.

Kevan's Onesie Challenge

Exeter Business Club celebrated their last meeting of the year with member Kevan Lush fulfilling his promise to turn up in his Christmas onesie if members pledged £100 to the Club's charity fund.

The £100 target was quickly met with many members entering in the spirit by turning up in Christmas jumpers.
