EXETER – 8.30 A.M:- An estimated 4,000 Jehovah’s Witnesses and members of the public from Somerset, and parts of Devon, Dorset and North Somerset have been seen streaming into the Westpoint Centre for the second day of their three day convention entitled: “Imitate Jesus!”

Last weekend another 4,000 visitors from Cornwall and South Devon enjoyed the same program here at Westpoint.

“This is the first time we have used the Westpoint Centre – an indoor venue – to stage any of our conventions”, states Andy Perry, a convention spokesman, “in previous years we have used outdoor stadiums, such as Home Park in Plymouth, and last year Twickenham Rugby Stadium. In view of the terrible weather yesterday we are all glad to be inside!”

The audience ranges from the very young to the very old and all are eagerly looking forward to the start of today’s program.

“Our annual convention is one of the highlights of our year”, states Mr Perry, “we know the program will be an interesting and uplifting variety of talks, demonstrations, interviews and even a two part costume drama, this year all based around the theme “Imitate Jesus!. We will see how we can follow his example more closely in our daily lives, and how this will benefit ourselves, our families, and our communities. In between the sessions also provides an opportunity to meet up with old friends, and to make new ones, and the atmosphere of being with 4,000 people all trying to “Imitate Jesus” is always amazing, three wonderful days of peace and harmony. We know we will all go home on Sunday afternoon happier and with our faith and hope strengthened.”

Conventions are also being held this weekend in Leeds, Cardiff and Birmingham. These are the last of a series of conventions across the country that have had an estimated combined attendance of 130,000.

The program continues at 9.20 a.m. on Sunday (August 16). All are welcome.
Talks of particular interest are:

Sunday: 9.40a.m. “Have Love Among Yourselves” - A series of talks on what love is, and how to show it.
11.20 a.m. Public Discourse “Jesus Christ, World Conqueror – How and When?”
