River Cottage have released 15 sought-after spaces for their Traineeship Scheme to start this January. Available to everyone aged 16-24 across both Devon and Dorset, the scheme will run from 26 January for three months.

This ‘work-experience’ scheme aims to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people.  Trainees will attend the iconic Park Farm twice a week for the first eight weeks, then once a week from then on. In addition to practical cookery, they will complete a range of activities aimed to increase employability, including interview techniques, CV writing, confidence boosting activities and career guidance.

Successful completion of the course will result in a Level 1 Qualification in Employability as certified by City & Guilds. Graduate trainees can then advance onto River Cottage’s award-winning Young Chef Apprenticeship Scheme to build experience in the workplace while getting paid.

Chris Griffin, Head of Education at River Cottage said, “Traineeships are a stepping stone to an apprenticeship and employment, but they are aimed at young people who need the experience necessary to get their foot through the door. Our Traineeships equip young people with the transferrable skills needed to set them up for a lifelong career.”

River Cottage’s quality educational programmes have been recognised through recent inclusion in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer’s in the UK list; one of three hospitality specialists.

There are no entry requirements to joining the scheme, just the commitment to see the three month course through. The programme is free of charge, and travel expenses will be paid for.
