Organisers of TEDxExeter, the South West's leading Ideas Festival, have announced the addition of five speakers to its 2019 programme.

Now in its eighth year, the sold out event will take place on Friday 5th April 2019 at Exeter's Northcott Theatre, and will be simultaneously livestreamed to an audience in the University of Exeter's Alumni Auditorium.

The new speakers will add an exciting dimension to the much anticipated event, touching on topics from disability rights, to the problem of plastics in our oceans. Attendees will also be treated to live entertainment from a regular sell-out duo at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The five additional speakers at TEDxExeter 2019 will be:

Hannah Barham-Brown - Trainee GP, disability advocate and member of the British Medical Association Council

Alexander Betts - Professor of Forced Migration and International Affairs at the University of Oxford

Chris Turner - Consultant in emergency medicine at University Hospitals of Coventry and Warwickshire

Kate Salmon - Applied scientist at the Met Office, where she uses weather and climate data to help decision-makers plan for climate change

Performers Harry Baker and Chris Read - A World Poetry Slam champion and an internationally celebrated jazz musician; the duo have sold out three runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe

These speakers and performers will join the original line-up which was announced in February along with this year's theme, 'The Art of the Possible'.

Claire Kennedy, Curator & Licensee says: "We are thrilled to welcome these wonderful speakers and performers to this year's event. Now in its eighth year, TEDxExeter captures the imagination of communities locally, nationally and internationally and we feel that the latest additions to the programme will add another thought provoking dimension to the day. We are delighted to welcome them all to Exeter in April and to the wider TEDxExeter community."

Tickets for the 2019 event sold out in minutes, but there are still opportunities to be part of the day. Free livestream viewing events will be taking places at venues across the city, including Exeter City Library, the RAMM, Westbank and The Oddfellows Inn.
