Stagecoach bus workers right across the country have joined together to create a special video to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day.  Bus drivers, engineers, managers, cleaners and many other employees feature in the tribute video covering Forces’ Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn’s wartime anthem “We’ll meet again”.

Staff from across 16 Stagecoach depots came together to sing a line of the famous song to recognise and pay tribute to all those who fought so hard on the front line during WWII. The depots involved were:

  • Exeter
  • Torquay, Devon
  • Cambridge
  • Oxford
  • Carlisle
  • Eastbourne
  • Blackwood, South Wales
  • East Scotland
  • Preston
  • Middleton, Manchester
  • Skegness
  • Worksop, Nottinghamshire
  • Slaytford, Newcastle upon Tyne
  • West Ham, London
  • Catford, London
  • Thanet, Kent

Stagecoach Managing Director for Stagecoach South West Mike Watson, said: “Whilst everybody in the country is pulling together during these difficult times, we wanted to come together and remember all those who sacrificed so much during WWII.

“We were astounded by the positive response from our teams right across the country to take part in our special video, and we’re very proud that our staff in the South West are involved in commemorating such a proud occasion.

“Buses play a crucial role in connecting people and providing that essential daily social link. As we come out of lockdown and enter a new normal way of life, we know that our services will continue to be vital in helping to reunite people and we’re looking forward to meeting all of our customers again.”

In addition to the special video, many Stagecoach buses across the country will carry destination boards recognising the 75th anniversary of VE Day and will be honouring the two minutes’ silence at 11am on Friday 8 May.
