Repairs to hole in the Exe Estuary Trail start today

Update: Network Rail will be closing the Exe Estuary Trail from today, Weds (30th Jan) to Fri inclusive between Exton and Lympstone.

Work starts today, Monday 14th January, to repair a large hole in the Exe Estuary Trail at Nutwell Court (between Lympstone Station and the Commando Training Camp), which appeared in the cycle way as a result of severe wet weather shortly before Christmas.

Devon County Council made the immediate area safe and had erected a temporary scaffold bridge over the hole, so that the trail could be kept open over the Christmas and New Year period.

But from today, and for about two to three weeks, the Council’s contractors will be underpinning the washed out sections of the trail, as well as other work to make permanent repairs.

At the same time, Network Rail will also be repairing the railway bridge, wall and embankment, which is likely to require temporary closure of the trail for short periods during the week – not weekends – to allow them to complete their heavy work, immediately adjacent to the trail.

The Council is asking cyclists and pedestrians to take care and to pay attention to any warning notices that indicate temporary closure.
