Rainbow trail launched at Seaton Wetlands

New trail aimed at pre-school aged children and takes in a range of exciting activities

A new rainbow-themed trail which is aimed at pre-school aged children has been installed at Seaton Wetlands. The trail starts in the Wetlands car park (accessed through Seaton cemetery, on Colyford Road) and takes visitors on a self-guided activity trail around the reserve.

Visitors are taken on a journey through the Wetlands reserves by following different coloured wooden posts. At nine points along the trail there are exciting activities to engage young children; hunt for natural colours and shapes, stop and listen to the sounds of the Nature Reserve, tip-toe over bridges trying not to disturb the Troll beneath, and much much more!

The majority of the trail is pushchair and scooter/ bike friendly, the small sections which are off the tarmacked path have spaces where pushchairs can be left nearby. In order to suit little legs, the trail can be completed in one visit or started and finished at any point.

East Devon District Council Countryside Education ranger, Meg Knowles, who put the trail together said: "The aim of the trail is to keep younger children interested during walks. The activities help children to engage with their wild surroundings and could also offer ideas for families to use when out and about on other countryside walks. We hope to see lots of children taking part and enjoying a well-earnt picnic afterwards!"

The trail will run from Saturday 27 May through to Friday 8 September and can be walked on any day, at any time during that period.

There are toilets and picnic tables at Seaton Wetlands. Tea, coffee and biscuits are available from the Discovery Hut, where you can view the recently hatched kestrel chicks on the kestrel cam. The hut is open from 10am to 4pm Saturday to Monday, and 11am to 1pm Tuesday to Thursday until the kestrel chicks fledge at the end of June.
