A radio presenter is putting his best foot forward to get in shape for a fundraising run with the help of a pioneering fitness device at an Exeter hotel.

107.3FM Radio Exe drive-time presenter Ashley Jeary is taking part in the Age UK Exeter 10k race and will be training with the MYZONE® chest strap and monitoring system provided by the Mercure Exeter Southgate hotel.

This fitness-monitoring device was launched at the hotel last week. The first of its kind in the city, allows users to track their fitness goals. When used in the hotel’s gym, fitness enthusi-asts can see their effort levels appear on a television screen. The device also allows users to download their gym efforts and display the results directly on their social media accounts.

Manager of the hotel’s Spa Naturel Fitness Steve Forbes will be working alongside Ashley to support and train him so he can run to victory on March 22.

He said: “We are very excited to be working with Ashley as he trains for the run. It is a great fundraiser for Age UK. Training with the MYZONE will help Ashley because he will be able to accurately track his effort levels throughout the training. Having clear targets and seeing how, bit by bit, you achieve those, increases motivation, which ultimately means better re-sults. More and more people are using it at the gym, tracking their performance and moni-toring their improvements over time.”

MYZONE transmits heart rate, calories and effort in real time to a live display and wirelessly uploads that data to a logbook that can be accessed online or through the free MYZONE Lite App.

Ashley, a Radio Academy’s 30 Under 30 winner, is looking forward to the challenge.

He says: “I’ve been a stranger to my gym kit for some time, but I’m really motivated to get in shape and do the best that I can for Age UK. I can’t wait to see what results the MYZONE chest strap will help me achieve. I want to get round in less than an hour, but right now, I could only do that on a bike.”

The Mercure Exeter Southgate hotel will be giving Ashley full access to its gym and facilities and Steve, who is also taking part in the run, will be on hand to prod Ashley in the right di-rection. Listeners will be able to keep track of Ashley’s progress with weekly updates on his show on 107.3FM Radio Exe.
