The beautiful gardens of Bicton Park were awash with red, white and blue as 900 people enjoyed a spectacular show for Hospiscare’s Proms in the Park last Saturday.

The rain clouds stayed away as the night opened with the big brass sounds of the South West Comms Band who were followed by the gifted voices of India’s finest tenor, Anando Mukerjee and the UK’s own inspirational Laure Meloy.

The musical arrangement included songs from musicals and popular operatic arias such as La Traviata and Boheme.

The night was also supported by local choir, The Wyndham Singers and compere and soloist Mervyn Hayes, all accompanied by the talented Jonathan Delbridge & Sam Nickels on the grand piano.

The night concluded with a superb build-up of atmosphere as the classics of Jerusalem and Rule Britannia rang out across the Park. An amazing firework finale lit up the stunning setting of the grade 1 listed Italianate gardens for the perfect ending to a fantastic night.

The event raised several thousands for local charities Hospiscare and Dream-A-Way.

Sarah Smith, Events Manager at Hospiscare said “Our sincere thanks to Ann Blake and Valerie Lister, for what has been another amazing night of high quality music and entertainment.

"Our thanks also to the generosity of the talented musicians and artists who have helped raise so much for our services and to the main sponsors Brewin Dolphin and The Exeter.”
